I am the mother of a 21years old young male who always had asthma heart murmur and developmental delays .Started school and has had an IEP since he was 3. At the age of 14 he went into cardiac arrest got a pacemaker at 15 and restrictive lungs and still has delays Joseph Saintelus takes 11pills a day not including his asthma pumps and he doesn't have the friends he used too he went into a shell therapy reports show Joseph has problems with depression you denied him without looking over his whole case he couldn't go to any heart specialist for three months no insurance and children and families wouldn't help because you already denied him without checking the new evidence. I am already on a fixed income paying 500 deductible for heart surgery it's sad when you live here and can't get proper help. For anyone going to court always have a lawyer or you will get screwed this is for Joseph Joey Saintelus i am your voice we been waiting months for Medicaid with no help

I seen judge Andrew's on June 8th for my hearing she was very nice and understanding. I was not able to sit for the duration of the hearing due to my disabilities and she did not mind at all that I needed to stand. Thank you judge Andrew's for a pleasant hearing.

ALJ McGrath went above and beyond recently, and by his efforts, allowed my client her hearing when there had been a serious miscommunication regarding my client's file (it had been sent to another hearing office by mistake, and the hearing cancelled - all without notice to myself or my client). Another ALJ might have shrugged their shoulders and said nothing could be done, so sorry; ALJ McGrath instead tracked the file down, had it sent back to North, and worked the hearing into his already scheduled docket. While we are still awaiting results, we are grateful to have been able to conduct the hearing as we had planned, especially since my client traveled from TN to Athens for the hearing. Thank you Judge McGrath!

One of the most hateful, smart mouth judges I've ever witnessed in my life. I spent 6 yrs fighting this judge. Lost all disability credits and had to reapply for ssi. I was given a different ALJ and won my case. This man is the worst of the worst.

My first time before a judge and I am glad it was Judge Taylor. I felt he was very fair, understanding, and truly listened.

Judge: Maria C Northington
10/1/2015 6:40:10 AM

I had the pleasure of being before Judge Northington on several cases. She was patient, kind, compassionate, empathetic and so on. She never cut a claimant off. She appeared genuinely concerned about knowing person and what it was like for them on a daily basis. She took onto consideration all medical records she had and made sure to note additional records that should be obtained to corroborate claimants' history and condition. She particularly seemed very empathic to those with depression, and could completely sympathize because of the vicious cycle of no treatment because no insurance, no insurance because waiting for 2 years for SS hearing to get insurance to get medicine and treatment. She appears to truly care. She is respectful to everyone in her courtroom.

Judge: Renee S Andrews - Turner
8/17/2015 5:01:02 PM

She strongly suspects that all claimants and their representatives are liars and cheats. She looks for anything in the record to support her speculation that a claimant is lying. She doesn't ask about any of her concerns during the hearing, when the Claimant could explain or the representative could point to clarifying evidence. Instead, she sandbags. She thinks she is smarter than medical doctors or Ph.D. psychologists. She does not hesitate to second-guess their opinions, even when opinions from multiple doctors are supported by substantial medical evidence in the record. She is a disaster and a nightmare. She makes up her mind before hearings.

Aggressive - he was nasty, cruel and went on and on about things that had nothing to do with the case. Whoever or whatever set him off that day was taken out on me. The lawyer, court reporter and other person in the room were very uncomfortable with his behavior, they could not look at either of us. Thankfully after a few months of deliberation, the finding was favorable. I don't wish what happened that day on anyone!

I went before Judge Northington last week. I had so much anxiety built up I thought I would pop. How do you get someone to understand how much pain you are in every day? That is all I could think about and of course rejection again. To my suprise Judge Northington had carefully read my file and knew exactly how much pain I was in. I feel she is a very fair Judge I have so much respect for her. Judge Northington didn't treat me like I was a nobody she was kind and listened to everything I had to say.

Terrible judge. Does not apply the rulings and regulations properly and ignores expert testimony. Relies on DDS consultants and rejects opinion evidence offered by treating doctors and consultants.

Judge: Renee S Andrews - Turner
2/26/2015 3:03:47 AM

Her demeanor told me at the door I had a tough fight on my hands. She is very cold. She was far from thorough as she just agreed with the previous decisions without considering or addressing ALL of the evidence. You'll need an overwhelming amount of agreements from your own doctors if you're going to win a fully favorable decision with her at the bench, not just a treatment history. She used my medical history of treatments against me. Get opinion evidence from as many of your doctors as possible who agree on your onset date or you'll be sorry when you get your backpay. If you even get a partially favorable, be glad, she's definitely a tough cookie.

I went before Judge Evans today in Melbourne and therefore will not have a decision anytime soon according to my atty, 3-6 months. However I just wanted to say he seemed very nice and cared about my disability. I think the problem with denials is the use of DOT job descriptions. The vocation expert goes by a book that tells job descriptions according to title. What the VE was reading was no where near my job description but...... The judges have to rule by the book, just sayin!

Judge: T. Whitaker
1/27/2015 9:14:26 PM

Judge Whitaker was very interested in me during my hearing. Let me start out by saying she has not ruled in my case, but I was impressed with her ability to show some compassion while remaining very professional throughout the entire hearing. She asked numerous questions, and did not appear to have made up her mind prior to the hearing. She asked some important questions. Good Luck to all of you.

8/27/2014 3:10:35 PM

As an attorney, I practice before several Social Security hearings offices and numerous judges throughout the Southeast. My experience with Judge McGrath has been consistently positive, and I have found him to be fair-minded and efficient in his handling of cases where I have appeared before him. While he takes a streamlined, no-nonsense approach to hearings, he appears to do this out of a sense of duty to move his cases efficiently and to minimize delay in resolving claims where claimants have already been required to wait months (or even years) without income leading up to finally getting their day in court.

Judge: Larry J. Butler
8/27/2014 2:51:01 PM

I was told by my attorney that Judge Butler takes Months and months to decide on disability cases. I went to see him on August 7, 2013...after already waiting 2 years to get my Hearing date with a Federal Judge. SO now I have waited 3 years. I broke my foot off my ankle in 2008. I have a plate and 6 screws holding it on. I have daily pain in my right ankle. It is tearing up my left knee that was operated on in 1996...I have a torn meniscus on my right knee and my right hip is getting worse the more I walk. I had a Nervous Breakdown in 2010 and Found out I am Manic Depressive and this whole thing with not being able to walk is driving me nuts. I have not worked...I can not work. My dyslexia is so bad I have had to back space and retype just to type this so you can read it. I want to make a Formal Complaint about Judge Larry Butler... How do I do that?

Judge: Maria C Northington
7/21/2014 5:51:46 AM

My Title II SSDI case went before Judge Northington last week after a two year wait. I had made every effort to insure the the court had all medical records and letters from my treating physicians, but I have to admit that I went into the hearing with more than a mild amount of anxiety. Denial or dismissal would mean much more than continued appeals for me and my family; we would be homeless with nowhere left to turn. Judge Northington was well-versed on my case, kind, compassionate, and seemed generally concerned about my health and well-being. After verifying some of the facts in my case and listening to the abbreviated findings of the VE she approved my claim. After a long and arduous journey through this process I've come to the conclusion that if your claim is legitimate and you present the facts in a coherent way, it all comes down to the compassion (or lack thereof)of a single individual. May you all be blessed with a hearing before someone with a kind heart and empathetic soul, as I was.

I have worked indirectly with ALJ Whitaker on numerous occasions. I have had many clients go in front of her for hearings and she is probably one of the more fair ALJs within Social Security. I worked with her when I was still with a practice in Indiana and I look forward to working with her more in the future upon her transfer to Ft. Myers. She is unbiased in her opinions and works off evidence, not off assumptions. Please notice when reviewing her that her numbers are one of the few ALJs whose numbers have stayed relatively consistent over time.

This Judge knows his job. He gets straight to point and does not waste anytime or taxpayers money. He is well prepared. He has an idea of what his decision will be before the hearing. He shows concern about the claimant and takes everything into consideration. He does his job well without hesitation. He can see right through a person if they are full of BS. Great service for the people!

this judge made a decision on what he "believes" not what the evidence showed. this whole process has been a joke, legal people making medical decisions. the "Doctor" they sent me to checked my vitals, testes my reflexes all in about 5 minutes didnt even want to talk about why i was there. but this judge gave a great deal of weight to this quack who is just running a ss scam for money!! i dont qualify for a mental disability, but that was never my issue it was physical! what a joke. i want to know who he has approved and how long he has sat on other decisions.

Denied my case with no witnesses and his whole summary said nothing about my medical problems. He stated my angry was not depression related but that I was an alcoholic! I quit drinking 20 years ago in my youth because I was working out and trying to live healthier. Never had a problem with alcohol so this seems like a libel suit. Also the rest of his dribble said nothing about me and he never said a word about my emphysema, left eye blind, no vision right eye, asthma, or anemia. I worked for 30 years and it was not easy but money went into ssd just in case I needed it. We need to get rid of these judges who get paid from this money that was suppose to be for us. How about they give me the money I put in back and we will call it even? Appeals court agreed with me and yesterday it went back to him. He had me see to doctors both paid for by ss and after checking there records, they both see 100 patients a month for ss and have a 99% record of saying people should be denied. At the hearing the judge hired a neor doctor in Texas to testify. I am in Florida. This guy has a 100% denial record. He also has no experience in Psychiatry and optometry yet he testified that I had no depression and could see fine! When my attorney tried to cross examine this guy evans cut him off and refused all his questions! He would not allow my attorney to question him and when he asked to have his testimony thrown out because of Evans denied it. My attorney said he does this to him all the time.

I suffer from uncontrolled epileptic seizures, degenerative disc disease, spinal stenosis, foot drop, severe nerve and muscle damage right leg, nerve damage left leg, and anxiety. Judge Evans denied my disability...I was shocked!..according to his 15 page denial letter, he did not take into consideration the notes from my neurologist, the denial letter stated I have fibromyalgia which I do not have, It was written I have seen doctors in Tampa ( I cannot drive due to seizures)but I live 2 hrs away, and it was shown I was admitted to a facility, when in fact I was not. Judge Evans based his decision upon all of my ER visits due to having grand mal seizures. All the ER doctors were baffled because they are not specialized in seizure disorders and do not realize that 2% of patients on medications still suffer seizures. I have appealed and the appeal was granted. Waiting on another hearing. My conditions have gotten worse. My life has been detrimentally affected due to his lack of investigation and proper research on the evidence that was presented by my attorney. Thumbs down to this judge. He was acting as if he was sitting on the right hand of God that day. Shame on him. I have worked all my life and my medical conditions prevent me from even being able to walk to the mailbox, and seizures several times a week. I feel really bad for the people that will have to go in front of him in the future, especially if you are Caucasian. I was in a prayer group before entering the courtroom. Might I suggest you pray that God will give Judge Evans compassion and pray that God will soften his heart...this denial has absolutely devastated my life, in all ways. Thank you for reading this.

Judge: Duane D Young

I haven't received my decision regarding my SSDI hearing yet, but I do want to say that Judge Duane Young is a pretty fair judge. I didn't see this page until after my hearing when I was told the judges have their approval ratings online, so I wanted to present a fair view of him now and how I feel regardless of how he rules. He's good when it comes to your records and will allow you to explain what's in your records. I was honest with him about my records and my physical limitations and he was respectful. He did ask me a couple of tricky yes or no questions that were hard to answer in my situation but he understood what I was talking about. I've heard about other judges and how they do things, but Judge Duane Young actually seems to be one of the more respectful judges. Plus there are a lot of people out there who hope for a judge that gives them a fair shake and they don't always get that, especially from the sound of some of the newspaper articles around the country talking about how the judges don't hear them out or pay attention to the medical evidence. My final 2 cents is that as long as you're honest with him and you try to answer his questions the best you can, he's fair and you'll feel comfortable.

my first claim was DENIED by this alj, even though he stated in his decision that i did in fact have two severe impairments.. of course the AC kept his ruling intact and my atty filed in federal court. well here it is 6 1/2 yrs from initial filing and 3 yrs after it was denied at appeals council and taken to fdc, my claim was remanded due to ERROR by the alj for NOT giving my treating doctors RFC any weight and going by what the ssa med examiner (which i never saw to begin with)said at some point before my initial denial (which only took a few months to get) hearing was NOT that quick, and also we waited for at least 15-20 minutes before hearing started as the VE was LATE. mind you judge started without the VE, and he finally arrived about 10 minutes before my hearing was over..he heard me answer the last 2 question is all. yet the judge took his opinion that there were thousands of jobs in the national economy within our region that i could do?? i am like the rest of you, i believe he has his mind made up before you go in the door...well, he messed up on this one and now i get a new hearing and hopefully with another judge

Judge: Frederick McGrath

Our office has had numerous hearings with Judge McGrath. He has a reputation for scheduling several hearings at the same time and taking them on a first come/first served basis; will start early if you get there early; does NOT like submission of medical records on the day of the hearing. Generally does not ask for opening; lets rep do most of questioning and just cuts in when he has a question. I think he often has a good idea of how he feels about a case and uses the hearing to see if it changes his mind. His award rate is not out of line, so he's not denying everything that comes through the room. (Claimants need to understand it isn't the number of pages of records you have, but how well the opinions are supported by clinical evidence, diagnositic testing and your own credibility).

Judge: T. Whitaker
3/18/2013 2:53:14 PM

Cant have hearings with any other judge the same day as this judge or you will get admonished by Whitaker.

Judge: Frederick McGrath
3/11/2013 7:35:08 AM

Yes he has mind made up before the hearing. He schedules way too many hearings on one given day and they are conducted to quick. Rarely uses a VE. The Jacksonville ODAR is filled with fairly negative ALJs.

Judge: Frederick McGrath
3/7/2013 7:45:47 PM

Judge Frederick McGrath claimed he could not read the RFC filled out by my doctor because "the doctor's handwriting was not completely legible and his signature was indistinguishable." There were approximately 30 cases he ruled on before he saw me the day of my hearing and it seemed like he had already made up his mind on each case before the people even entered the courtroom. He wrote about my mental health in his official ruling even though my claim was entirely a physical case with all of my mental health issues (depression because I am unable to work) being a direct result of my physical disability.

Judge: Frederick McGrath
3/7/2013 6:57:22 PM

I was denied even though I have more than 4,000 pages of medical records, dozens of doctors supporting my claim and submitting written statements, and the court-appointed vocational expert testified that there was not a job I was suitable to do. Mcgrath ruled against this suggestion and said I could do a job that did not require standing, sitting, working with my hands, concentration, memory, interaction with people, and would allow me to lie down for extended periods of time each hour. I also require a caretaker (who is writing this message as I am unable to do so) on a fulltime basis to feed, cloth, bathe, drive, make appointments and manage my dr. schedule, clean, cook, and take care of basically all of my needs/activities of daily living. He made the decision in less than 5 minutes and asked me less than 10 quick questions. His decision was overturned on appeal and has been sent back to be heard in court for a second time. I first applied for disability in 1999 and have spent the last 6 years appealing his ruling. I am going back to court in the next 6 months or so and will let you know who I get and the judgement.

Judge: M. D Evans
2/25/2013 5:00:07 PM

Received my long awaited decision, it wasn't fully favorable but that's because Judge Evans was fair to both sides. I believe his judgement was impressive because what I read in his findings was a judge that not only took my professional doctors words but also heard my personal battle with my disorders. He made the right decision, I told the complete truth an when he pushed for a answer I didn't think what was the right or wrong answer I gave him the honest one. If you go in front of him, tell him 100% what it is that's going on with your disability he listen, but remember he's very sharp : ) he wants to here the way it is an you show him respect an he returns that in his court room. God bless his decision, he tuff but fair. THOMAS

I will have to say, Judge Robins really made me feel at ease. I went in to do one thing, tell the complete truth, obviously, as to my condition and why I am unable to work. I do not know the outcome at this point, but whatever it is, I fully believe that Judge Robins will make the best decision for me. I consider myself a very stoic person; however, when I had to explain the difficulty I had coming to grips with leaving my career behind, I tried extremely hard to not sound as though I was about to bawl! Just not being able to do what I loved to do for 22 years of my life.
