Judge: Sheila Lowther

I appeared before Judge Lowther and I had a very positive experience. She was kind and attentive. I answered all her questions briefly yet honestly. I was quite impressed with her knowledge of my case, she does her homework before the hearing. I want to express to those who are struggling in this process how important it is to have substantial medical documentation that supports your claim. Get copies of your medical records, go to the doctor frequently, don't stop advocating for yourself!!The burden of proving your disability is on you, it's not just what you say, it's what your evidence can prove. I worked day and night getting every piece of paper I could to prove my claim. I even had notarized statements from caregivers, previous employers, family, friends and most importantly a current letter from my treating physician stating the severity of my illnesses. I worked in conjunction with my attorney (whom had not defended a disability case before). I just didn't stop going to the doctor!!! Medicaid paid for my doctor visits, surgeries, and medications because I had no income. I was very nervous going into the hearing, that's a normal response. I just kept calm, concentrated on what the judge asked me and I was honest. I knew everything I said to her could be corroborated by my medical evidence. Keep your head up and don't stop advocating for yourself!

Waiting patiently

I don't know what or why he thinks he is God and has the right to discredit a Dr.s report or evaluation and in 3 years you wait things even get worse I take he is government paid there for his approval rate is very low I believe he works on commission and does not take in consideration the actual human that is being reviewed because judge makes big money lives great life makes people like me feel suicidal and I paidy working dues 33 years I didn't ask to be broke down and in bad health at 47 Mr. Zuber your not a Dr. And don't have right to aCT like one if no future after my appeal Mr ZUBER will be the reason I leave on my death note! Again GOD HAVE MERCY ON YOUR SOUL AND ANY ONE ELSE'S THAT LANDS YOU AS A JUDGE.

Judge: Jim Fraiser

Judge Fraiser is not a very nice person. I was struck by a car while walking. I suffered severe injuries to my body, head, spine, leg and arm/shoulder. Judge Fraiser suggested I could work as a parking lot attendent! When I tried to remind him that we had discussed the PTSD I have, and real fear I still have of moving cars around me, he told me to SHUSH! I was denied! I have written a complaint and refiled. A PARKING GARAGE? Is that some kind of sick joke?

The VA would not submit the letter that would have granted me my disability, stating that it was a 'conflict of interest'. Only after I had a meeting with the VAMC administrator did they send the letter to this judge. There was no regulation or conflict of interest that prevented them from sending the letter. However, the judge made his decision 5 days prior to the release of this letter. Thanks VA! Now I lose my house, my car, and my child will be homeless while in her senior year of high school. She is an AP honors student and will be homeless. I worked for 35 years. Served my country. SSA's own doctor said I was disabled, the vocational expert said there were no jobs in the economy for me, yet the VA and this judge made a horrible decision. Time for the media and the VA OIG to get involved.

He was very good at explaining all the details so I can understand him. Thank you Judge Miller.

Between Belinda Hemphill, Judge Fraiser and Sonya Frisby I had an appt. schld within 2 weeks for a hearing. I have to use the library computor due to being homeless and a friends phone. I have prayed a Judge would see my file and approve based upon the facts, but at least I got an appt date because Judge Fraiser saw it as dire..Thank you Sir and those ladies who help make this possible...God Bless you all and Jackson Ms ODAR for doing their job above the national avg. I have 2 failed fusion surguries in my neck and a third herniated disk the Dr's won't operate on, my right arm is disabled due to 6 operations I've had on it. Got 5 bad disk in my lower back and both my hips are going out, plus depression problems. I'm 55 years old and all I know is factory work that I can't do any more. He blatanly lied and distorted the truth about my condition. He only believe what he wants to believe and ignores what he doesn't. He called me a lier and my Dr. a quack. Why is this guy allowed to do this?

Judge: John R Price

Thank you, Judge Traver, for hearing my case yesterday. I was surprised you approved it on the spot, in just 15 minutes. I had been told not to expect a decision, and that I would receive a letter in 30-60 days informing me if your decision. I am very appreciative that you had already reviewed my medical records, and knew my case before I even sat down. Thanks again!

Judge: Anthony R Smereka
10/15/2014 8:52:50 AM

This judge acts like he knows it all, but he's very ignorant. He doesn't bother to take the time to review all of your case notes. He's a very unprepared judge and unfortunately it hurts you and he doesn't care.

Judge: Scott T Miller
9/29/2014 11:16:55 PM

I have found Judge Miller to be fair and kind to claimants. He takes time to ask questions, often takes notes about your case, and provides numerous examples/questions in an attempt to understand the claimant's condition. I am always thankful to have a case before him.

Judge: Daniel A Traver
9/5/2014 10:20:08 PM

I believe that Judge Traver just wants all the facts yes he very vocal, but he is fair I walk out of there crying but that is because he was just telling the truth. I am happy that I was in front of him, and he is as honest as he is. HE JUST WANTS THE FACTS, so that if you are really disabled you will get the help you need. He is very different than any judge I had ever been in front of, but very thorough when trying to decide 100's of cases. You should be so lucky to be in front of him. Thanks Judge Traver for making me open my eyes and see that I had kids to think about, and that taking care of me was important.

Heartless and ignorant. Suggests that person could frequently climb ramps and stairs when the SSA medical examiner says NO. Went over the opinions of VE and examiner. Uses old statements thinking stuff cant get worse. LIES too.

Judge: Candace A McDaniel
9/3/2014 10:00:38 PM

I was really nervous going into the hearing. I was told that this judge was a very hard and skeptical judge. She did not at all make me feel uncomfortable, and never was she rude. She was to the point and she seems to look at everything. I have not received my decision yet but I would never speak badly of her either way. These judges don't know you personally. They have only documented facts to go by. Anyone going through anxiety about your hearing... just be yourself and be honest. The judges won't bite you. Thank you to all the judges who hear many stories.

This judge is EVIL! He did not follow procedure during my hearing. I was barely allowed to speak during my hearing. My rep was not allowed to speak AT ALL!! He berated, belittled and insulted me the whole time. He did not address all the medical issues I have filed for. He made things up and lied about the information received to substantiate my case. I should have been approved under Social Security Blue Books regulations for only one of my illnesses and he ignored that! He broke the law as far as I'm concerned. Pray you aren't sent for a hearing in front of this EVIL, bitter, angry and tired old man. I'm not just angry. I haven't exaggerated above.

Judge: George A Jacobs
9/7/2013 2:19:49 PM

His "findings" regarding my case were absurd. He seemed to be looking at someone else's case completely when coming to his unfavorable decision. The impartial vocational expert even agreed that I should be on disability but he ignored her completely. I was informed by his assistant before even going into the courtroom that I was required to say "yes, sir" or "no, sir" when answering questions and that I was to keep my answers to his questions short. He didn't seem to be paying attention to my case at all and had his decision as soon as I walked into the room. I felt bullied and unheard.

Judge: Daniel A Traver
5/29/2013 9:16:00 PM

Judge Traver is one of the best judges on the panel. Very compassionate and understanding! I was in there maybe 20 minutes and he approved my case and told me while I was there that he approved my disability. He is a lovely Judge and I am glad that I was lucky enough to have him over everyone else in the judges panel. Look at his case approval rate.. he has the highest of all the judges and I think he is very fair!

Based on our experience this ALJ used to be very friendly, easy going and had a much higher award rate. In the last couple of years he's become much tougher and has a very conservative award rate. He tends to like to work fast, asks rapid fire, pointed questions to claimant. Usually asks one hypo based on DDS and one assuming inability to do full time work. Does not usually ask for opening or closing and does most of questioning himself.

2/20/2013 8:14:17 AM

This judge is cold-hearted and has no empathy for mental illness claimants. He not only called three psychiatrist and a social security psychologist, two primary doctors liars but me as well. His problem is since he can't see the illness physically then you can work. I believe he wants me to go out in the workplace and have one of my mental breakdowns whereby I hurt someone or vice-versa for him to see that a person that suffers with bipolar I & II are very moody people who can't always control themselves. I also suffer with manic depression, PSTD, social anxiety, anxiety, claustophic, panic attacks, OCD, high blood pressure, asthma, bronchitis, heart disease, etc. I am a 50 year old black female who has worked 30 years of her life always giving and caring for others. I have attempted suicide twice because I am my wits end. It took almost 4 years for this unfair system to tell me no I don't qualify for sdi in which I paid into the system. I guess, I will have to prove to this ### and the rest of them that I refuse to let others come here and live off of me when they never worked a day in this country.

Judge: Sheila Lowther
2/19/2013 9:15:22 PM

I got denied by this ALJ and she was very nice and listened very carefully. I have Fibromyalgia along with other things. In my denial letter she actually accused me of lying. I don't know what I lied about I was very nervous and I can't help that I am that way. I just told the truth and it really upsets me to be called a lair. I have never lied about my condition, no one but myself know how I feel unless they have walked in my shoes. Not even the doctors. I know they see all walks of life with everyone they see on a daily basis. And yes I would say at least 75% do lie. If I have to lie to get something, then I will do without but I have worked most of my adult life, paid in to ss and they tell me I am not disabled? I will not stoop to the level that some do.

I just want to say Thank You Judge Jacobs. The process is very lengthy and I continue to go down hill, mentally as well as physically but I have never been a quitter. There was so much in my files a lot I did not agree with but choose to accept because you did partially rule in my favor and I don't blame you for not granting a full judgement because I believe if I had been smarter and more educated I back in 2009 I would have not stopped until I found a doctor who was dedicated to finding out why I was so I'll. I am just truly blessed that now I can move forward and with my benefits I can try to find some sort of assisted living...You truly are a fair judge..

I am so greatful to Judge Shaughnessy for her approving my Soc Sec Disability this time last year. She saw through the negatives of my case & recognized that my set of challenges warranted an approval. I just don't know where i'd be medically as well as socially if this had not occurred. The income has helped to adjust to a somewhat debilitating situation & now i can purchase all my meds without taking half doses or skipping. As far as i'm concerned Judge Candace Shaughnessy is an angel in disguise. She certainly was an instrument of God's grace! I shall never stop thanking God enough for her ruling. I wish she & her family the most perfect Christmas a family can have, can i do any less! Thank you for allowing me to share what's been in my heart for a year now. Happy Holiday!

Guys I understand your frustration. Been denied, however not by judge fraiser but my point is I know people that have very limited things wrong with them and yet they get approved no problem. Also I think these judges shouldnt be able to make such decisions based on medical evidence when they have no clue what some of it means. they are not doctors and have never worked in the medical field. So how can they determine whats severe or not? Or as my denial stated you have 3 severe impairments but not severe enough. Oh the world we live in

I am not sure if this was the judge that I got to see. Even though I have not received a decision as of yet I must say that the judge was nice. She smiled & let me know straight up that hey who needs to be here is not here so I will have to do something else. If this can be paid out, I will. Bottom line to that. So now I sit here in pain waiting. I have been diagnosed with cancer which has spread to my lungs, chronic muscle spasms, bone pain & type 2 diabetes (uncontrolled). Most days with medication I am a zombie or sleep. Without the medication I am in pain. My doctor wants to increase my Percocet to 2 at one time in hopes that would relieve the pain. Now tell me, how will I go to work sleep? Come on now

8/1/2012 10:13:47 AM

although judge edison wasnt my judge I understand your frustration my hearing was june 20th and I havent recieved a decision letter in the mail yet. My conditions is left leg ampuation, psoriatic arthritis, and post tramatic stress syndrome. now if that doesnt qualify as disabled after i worked many years in the workforce then what would? I often think the same thing you guys do. what does it take to get approved roll in there on a hospital bed or a wheelchair. however my judge was extremely nice and seemed interested in my case but the low approval rates they have speak for themselves

7/30/2012 4:53:14 PM

This ALJ barely even looked at me during my hearing (June 2012) and never reviewed any medical findings after July 2011, which confirm my diagnosis. Also he basically said I was a liar and therefore denied me any disability benifits at all. I am on 19 prescribed medications, I can barely function while taken them, they have impaired my thinking skills. I also have hyper somnia, means I sleep for hours at any given time of day, but somehow that evidence was not in his report. If I was pushed in to the hearing in a wheel chair with drool hanging from my mouth, maybe he would believe me. But since I am an upbeat person ( to hide all the crap on the inside)he sees me as functional. I have good days and I have bad days , some days I have no pain and other days all I have is pain. I'm a mixed bag-who in their right mind would hire a person like myself? I can't sit or stand for too long, i can only do minimal light non-thinkinh kind of work, I will fall asleep on the job, I will forget the task I've been given and wander the office. I would get fired within a week, that or get that special baseball helmet for my head. this man infuriates me

Part of my disiability is lack of memory. He held that against me. We did a questionaire over two years ago that he held against me. He didn't understand the fact that their are times that things get worse. I could of told them all the truth about me being a abused child, and all the blows to the head. The fact that I have seizures caused by abuse. He didn't like the face that I'm not getting medical attention. I have no insurance. What about that is so hard to understand? Or that I didn't tell the free clinic every thing. I went there a couple times. I have pain in my back and I needed help. oh that got held against me. I guess he thought I did that cause of the hearing. mr. miller i did not lie to you! I told you things that day about myself that I tell no one. I thought you understood me. I was fooled. Chances are now I could be standing at deaths door and i will not seek treatment. i know that every thing I say is held against me.

Someone needs to pray for these folks to start approving...because the economy is already bad enough without us all scrimpimg and sacrificing to get the help we need and medicine and choosing between medicine food and bills to live.smh i bet none of the judges have to evvvvver sacrifice and worry and go hungry or without meds or utilities or be homeless....we have.

Judge Miller DID HAVE A HUGE backlog but I was being treated the same way, until i found out that he had a heart bypass surgery in Nov. and then had complications after that so they did move alot of cases to other areas that were not as backed up as his. I have been waiting for 5and a half years for a decision and finally got approved but my family was hurting and still is until i get my payments, so I do share your frustration!

On the morning of October 20th, 2011, I was allowed to present my case before Judge Miller, regarding my application for Social Security Disability Benefits. As of this date, March 15th, 2012, I have NOT received a reply from Judge Miller. I have contacted my attorney on several occasions, as well as contacting my Congressman, Gus Bilirakis. I received a letter dated February 23rd, 2012,from Mr. Bilirakis stating he did receive my notice of concerns and would be in touch with me as soon as possible. Then, I received a letter from my attorney, dated February 24th, 2012, stating he finally got a call back from Judge Miller's office stating due to a large backlog of cases my file was sent to another office to have the Decision typed and finalized, and, hopefully it would not be much longer until the Decision is mailed to me. Where do I fall in the statistics listed above?
