I had a ssi hearing with Judge Young in May 2016...i was very scared as i heard and read previously that this judge was a complete asshole and denies just about everyone...i suffer from severe anxiety disorder, PTSD, chronic depression, fibromyalgia, osteoarthritis, carpal tunnel in both hands, hypothyroidism, cant lift anything over a few pounds, cant stand or sit for longer than 45 minutes without needing a break, i had 4 orthopecic surgeries in less than one year for rotator cuff tear, meniscus tear, carpal tunnel release( which didnt help), and 2 elbow surgeries on elbow fir severe tendonitis and a ligament tear...i take 5 different dression medications and one anti anxiety...the chronic fatigue is a nightmare and i suffer from cluster headaches that i use oxygen to relieve...im still waiting for a decision and my anxiety is really bad..i hope Judge Young approves my claim..

I had this judge..all that is said about him is not all true..he gave me time to tell him about my problems..was a little harsh at times but over all was not that bad..my attorney was very helpful Sandra Serra... had to wait a few months for my decision..but got a partial favorable decision...not bad for a judge that denies most of his cases...

This man had no reason to deny me. I had medical records and proof of my disability. He stated at my hearing that my before and after x-rays were frightening. But said in his disposition that if I can talk on the phone, I can work. This man is clearly predujuce. He needs to be removed. If your black and you scraped your knee. Your in luck, because this fool will hand over SSI, but be white and paralized...you ain't getting squat!

Judge Andrew Emerson presided over my hearing on March 2016. He was very professional to me and my attorney. He asked me clear, concise questions such as.." How do you spend day?" Why are you unable to work? How far can you walk? Etc..He allowed me to explain and finish my thoughts. He was never rude or condescending. The VE expert said a few words to the judge at the end of the hearing. Overall, this Judge made the experience much less scary. Thank you Judge Emerson...

I have had Judge Young in a number of hearings over the years. Occasionally he will be professional in a hearing and keep proper decorum. However, most of the time he will be actively aggressive towards claimants and attorneys demeaning both for their disabilities and trivial matters respectively. When preparing my client's for hearing I tell them that this judge will be gruff and potentially even condescending towards them. When clients get flustered in front of Judge Young, I have noticed he will attack them even more. Whether he is trying to trip them up or is just frustrated with people who are scared when yells at them I do not know. It is true that he is a relatively low approving Judge, but it is his lack of professional decorum that is truly aggravating. I know when I have a case with Judge Young that my client is going to walk away from it shaken, confused, scared, and possibly angry because of his treatment towards the client during the hearing, regardless of whether the case is ultimately an approval or denial. If a Judge in either Maryland District or Circuit Court acted the way Judge Young acts when on the bench they would be disciplined, and if they persisted, would ultimately be removed from office. The fact that Judge Young has been this way for years is perhaps the greatest testament that the Administration does not care how low approving Judge's act so long as they don't attract attention to themselves.

Very polite Judge. Did what I would term a standard hearing with opening statement, questioning of the claimant, VE questions, and closing statement. The Judge did the vast majority of the questions to the claimant. I don't know the outcome yet but I have no complaints regarding his professionalism.

i went in front of judge pace in 2011 and he proceeded to berate me in the hearing ... i wish i could get a copy of the audio recording from that hearing, he denied me even though i had a letter from my doctors stating i am not capable of any gainful employment. i was hit with a mack truck in 2005 and have severe spinal cord injuries and if you go to this ssa site you can see what you have that qualifies you i have several listings from the musculoskeletal system and Neurological sections including multiple herniated disks and syringomyelia.

Judge: Kim McClain-Leazure

So disappointed in the judge. Stated comments that my psychiatrist did not say. Tried to intimidate me into saying it was correct. I know some people try to abuse the system. I'm not one of those. She discounted all of my documented evidence from all of my doctors. It was a joke. She used the fact that I try to walk without a cane against me. I only use it when necessary. I don't try to over act or pretend. I was so disgusted with her that I started not to file again. I got an attorney who told me to keep filing until you turn 65. He told me that I worked hard over 20 years and did not cause my injury. I had a super work history and loved what I did. I still will not lie under oath. I will tell the truth and I will answer questions correctly. If you have been denied by this judge, please do not give up. I will continue to fight for my case and I encourage you to do the same.

I had my hearing approx 3 months ago and Judge Kim was very understanding. She had the facts in front of her (my medical records) and my lawyer said maybe 5 words. She told me that I had solid evidence to support my claim. She gave me a favorable decision on the spot. I really appreciate all her help.

Disabled Veteran
Judge: Angela Miranda
7/7/2015 11:06:12 AM

Her numbers speak for this judge as she has the highest denial rate on this office. She likes to play doctor and recommend treatment plans speaking as though her background isn't in law but rather medicine. She gives little to no weight to all VA doctors, treating and evaluating, and doctors outside the VA healthcare system despite case law see McCarty verses Massanari. She also likes to cherry pick through the hypos the vocational expert uses instead of the factual comments the VE states when there is no work available due to your real life disability, not some hypothetical scenario. This judge works extra hard to deny disabled veterans with one hundred percent VA ratings. She clearly doesn't like veterans or respects the VA health care system.

I agree with the other 2 posted "reviews" of ALJ Edwards. I had client with a document FSIQ of 44. Same client has numerous physical impairments. Denied. Got the case remanded by the AC - now the client has passed aways - from her disabilites - while still waiting to get approved. Horrible.

Judge: Robert W Young
5/21/2015 4:42:45 PM

ALJ Robert Young is the worst ODAR ALJ in the USA. He is very dumb as well because after a remand from Federal Court he was unable to follow simple instructions and he trampled on my rights by not committing several procedural errors that are obvious and glaring. He did not use a vocational expert and he did not proffered medical evidences from a consultative examiner despite the reason that he used the evidence to deny me. To make his decision so worse he copied and pasted previous decision of another ALJ despite the fact the this ALJ's decision is already been vacated and reversed. He is a disgrace to ODAR Baltimore. This ALJ is a bad egg, if you are unfortunate to get him, I am sorry for you and start planning your appeal immediately.

Judge: Eric Schwarz
4/20/2015 7:38:30 AM

Honarable Judge E. Schwarz is a very fair judge. He allowed me time to seek the help of an attorney, however the lawyers that claim to work for a percentage of the payment, actually have fine print that you may incur other charges. That being said Judge Schwarz was very informative. He also helped me with the Vocational Expert, after she stated a particular job that may be in my wheel house, he questioned her by saying with Marks disability(s) is he able to perform this type of work and she stated that there was no notations for my disability and that I may or may not be able to. The judge did not try to play down any of my issues and asked me questions pertaining to those issues. He has decided to send me for an evaluation to compile more facts about my statements. I will respect his decision, as I wait with my fingers crossed. Judge Scwharz, I'm my opinion is extremely professional, I have nothing negative to say about the hearing and treatment by the judge. He treated me with dignity and respect.

I had a hearing with him in october of 2010, my doctor has had me fully disabled since january of 2007 and I still lost my decision. I'm now on disablity 2 years later. I presented the same case and won. he lied about everything he wrote, the guy must not have a heart to give me a unfavorable decision. because of me losing my case in 2010 I lost my pension that I was going to recieve. I wish there is a way to get him to read this and let him know how he ruined my life. I wish you would man up and admit you made a big mistake so I could get my onset date change so I could recieve my full pension

Judge: Timothy C Pace

Judge Timothy C. Pace: I had my hearing in November of 2013, and like so many people its a very long journey just to get to this court date. My disability and filing started in 2009 and there was some mistakes made within the SSD that put me way behind for me getting my trail date. After, a second filing in early 2012 and now with an attorney I got my date set in the middle of November. I advise anyone who is thinking about getting a attorney, Make sure they are local and NOT a national firm with lawyers scattered all over the country. I spoke to my attorney over the phone 3 times, twice within days of my hiring and never met him until I walked into the court room. My biggest mistake in my life. I did 99% percent of the talking and the lawyer made mistake right from the start, so I took control quickly and finished up the hiring. I even request that his fees be lowered if I won, right there at the time of the meeting. This action was granted by Judge Pace. Why did I gave Judge Pace a FIVE STAR review? Its simple and its based on two things and nothing more. 1) I had to deliver over 500 pages of medical records to the court before my court date because of my attorneys law firms poor handling of my case. So, I had a few calls and face to face meeting with the office staff. The staff was super helpful and truly cared about me as a person and my case. So, the staff shares in this review and the 5 stars. 2) Judge Timothy C. Pace got his five star rating for simply listening to my store. He just listened and you could tell he cared about my journey to disability status. Again, he listened and in the end that's all you can ask of any person: Judge, Doctor, Husband/Wife or partner. I walked out of the hearing knowing that I had my day and what ever happens next happens good or bad. But, I know in my heart and mind that I was heard!

Had a video hearing with this Judge. Her proceedings ran identical to the one described on 10/1/12. She was friendly throughout the whole proceeding and when she questioned the Claimant she did not get confrontational. Not sure of our outcome, but it was a smooth, pleasant process for all. There are FAR worse judges to be before.

Judge: Robert W Young
3/16/2013 5:27:28 PM

The judge Robert W Young was NOT fair to me in my case. He did not want me to go into details as to why I can't work. I have '' SCIATICA''. Sciatica - Topic Overview What is sciatica? Sciatica is pain, tingling, or numbness produced by an irritation of the nerve roots that lead to the sciatic nerve. The sciatic nerve is formed by the nerve roots coming out of the spinal cord into the lower back. It goes down through the buttock, then its branches extend down the back of the leg to the ankle and foot. What causes sciatica? The most common cause of sciatica is a bulging or ruptured disc (herniated disc) in the spine pressing against the nerve roots that lead to the sciatic nerve. But sciatica also can be a symptom of other conditions that affect the spine, such as narrowing of the spinal canal (spinal stenosis), bone spurs (small, bony growths that form along joints) caused by arthritis, or nerve root compression (pinched nerve) caused by injury. In rare cases, sciatica can also be caused by conditions that do not involve the spine, such as tumors or pregnancy. What are the symptoms? Symptoms of sciatica include pain that begins in your back or buttock and moves down your leg and may move into your foot. Weakness, tingling, or numbness in the leg may also occur. Sitting, standing for a long time, and movements that cause the spine to flex (such as knee-to-chest exercises) may make symptoms worse. Walking, lying down, and movements that extend the spine (such as press-ups) may relieve symptoms. How is sciatica diagnosed? Sciatica is diagnosed with a medical history and physical exam. Your doctor will ask you questions about your symptoms. And your doctor may be able to tell just by asking you these questions that you have sciatica. But X-rays and tests such as magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) are sometimes done to help find the cause of the sciatica. How is it treated? In many cases, sciatica will improve and go away with time. Initial treatment usually focuses on medicines and exercises to relieve pain. You can help relieve pain by: Avoiding sitting (unless it is more comfortable than standing). Alternating lying down with short walks. Increase your walking distance as you are able to without pain. Taking acetaminophen (Tylenol) or nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) such as ibuprofen (Advil) or naproxen (Aleve). Using a heating pad on a low or medium setting for 15 to 20 minutes every 2 or 3 hours. Try a warm shower in place of one session with the heating pad. You can also buy single-use heat wraps that last up to 8 hours. You can also try an ice pack for 10 to 15 minutes every 2 to 3 hours. There is not strong evidence that either heat or ice will help, but you can try them to see if they help you. Additional treatment for sciatica depends on what is causing the nerve irritation. If your symptoms do not improve, your doctor may suggest physical therapy, injections of medicines such as steroids, stronger medicines such as muscles relaxants or opioids, or even surgery for severe cases. He and other who were in the court room believe I can work. CASHIER,TICKET-TAKER,PRICE/MAKER light exertions. I cried so much when I was turned down. I use to able to work move at a fast past. I hope to my Lord,God he never experiences what others and I are going through. GOD is the JUDGE OF JUDGES. He has the last word and I will NOT give up !!!

He knows the law! He goes through very detailed questions with the Claimant and tries to make sure they understand everything. He's also good about questioning the vocational experts on their sources of information. His decisions clearly explain what he used to come to that decision, and he explains how much a claimant would really be expected to work. Claimants might not necessarily think he's a sweet, kind, and caring person, but they can be assured that he really considers the evidence and is trying to come to the right decision.

Judge: Angela Miranda
10/1/2012 2:06:28 PM

I've been in front of MANY ALJs that were MUCH worse than Judge Miranda. She can get tempramental at times, but for the most part she is very reasonable. She asks the rep if they want to give an opening, then asks the claimant about PRW, asks the VE to be ready to categorize the work when the time comes, asks the rep to go ahead with questioning, she will follow up with questions, will ask if the rep has any other follow up questions, then goes to the VE. She is very hard to read, though. She presents a hypo that results in jobs, then 3 or 4 that result in no jobs, so it's hard to know if she's thinking of paying or not except for the fact that she rarely pays! Very unfavorable.

Also my doctors form stating i have bipolar disorder and i take 300 mg of seroquel. This medicine causes me to have a zombie like effect when i am awake. It also causes me to sleep from 12 to 16 hours. How am i supposed to go to work when i can barly get out of bed. I also have had problems with arrhythmia and sleep apnea. Judge Miranda is probably one of the worst ALJs I have been in front of. If there is any errors in your file she will blame you and call you out on it in front of your client. She claims that Social Security never makes any mistakes and that evidence placed in your exhibit file had to be put there by you. She will tell you that Social Security has no plausible way to make a mistake about exhibiting your file. What a crock of total BS. She is hateful, rude, and lacks any sort of judicial tact. Please pass this on to the judge: To: Administrative Law Judge, Charles Stark From: Irene Michele Heigh Your Honor Sir, This note is being sent to you this day, July 25, 2012, because back in Feb. 2008, I was standing before you for an altogether different matter, yet you bought up the fact that I had experience some difficulties with my then neighbor. You asked how I was getting along currently with my neighbors. I answered that I was fine and there were no real problems with my neighbors. Well Sir, that same evening my neighbor who lives in the same house that the neighbor who used to harass me lived in began similar behavior. She was upset because of a parking space. The law settled that and suffice it to say from that day until today we never spoke directly to one another. Today, she finally trimmed a bush that grows over her fence into my yard. I asked her politely to clean up the debris left in my yard. She got loud and drew the attention of other neighbors by using profanity to tell me she wasn’t going to do it and that I should stop “looking in her face. You know I don’t like you. I’m sick of you looking in my face everyday! Don’t say a thing to me. I’m not cleaning up s... You always in my face, you keep your face up my a.., You come make me pick it up!” My response: ‘I asked you politely to pick up your…(interrupted) You can’t control what I do with my eyes, You wish you had my face up your…(interrupted) Don’t worry, I’ll take care of it.” Your Honor Sir I’m sending this account to you, because I’m not sure what I should do now that this is recurring. I’m hoping and praying that you have a suggestion that will keep this from further negative development. Please, offer me a workable solution. Thank you.
