ALJ Weiss can be hard to read at times but, in general, he grants the case. He takes quite a while to issue a decision and although some of his denials are questionable, he actually is one of the best ALJs in NY based upon the number of his favorable decisions. As a lawyer, I am happy when I see my case is assigned to ALJ Weiss.

Judge: Bruce MacDougall I had Judge MacDougall for my hearing I thought he was a total gentleman. I was surprised of his results. His Notice of Decision was Unfavorable. It is unfortunate because I honestly am disabled based on the criteria stated on the social security disability website. I know the government has no money but It seems to me that the government has money for when they need it. I still give this Judge 5 stars because of the way he treated me at the hearing. That goes a long way in my eyes in regards to the respect that people in authority give to people such as Judge: Bruce MacDougall gave to me. In conclusion, in my opinion his decision was possibly made because of pressure he may get from his superiors. I also feel that it was probably really based on my age (under 50) not on all of the evidence that was provided. Unknown if I should appeal.

Straight shooter, fair, objective. Bends to neither side. Thorough. Professional demeanor, you know your'e in front of a real judge and will get a fair shake, win or lose. What you want and expect in an Administrative Law Judge.

I have found Judge MacDougall to be fair and objective and to hold hearings where the claimant was treated with great respect and compassion. That is not to say he gives away the store, he doesn't but in the my opinion and that of others in my office he ususally gets it right- win or lose. I don't understand the comment above dated 7-27-12. Probably an unhappy claimant. Judge MacDougall is always fully conversant with the file at these hearings, and knows what's in each report. He is am impressive man in my opinion.

Judge April M. Wexler is a Judge who is definitely not aware of the fact that many people who are applying for disability are actual people who have serious pre existing and continued long term medical issues and medical problems. I believe she looks at the actual person instead of the combined medical evidence, which includes narratives MRI's, and x-rays provided by the Medical Doctors. Furthermore I believe that Judge Wexler is biased with many of her rulings and decisions. In my case her words to me directly were " If you can drive then you are not DISABLE period regardless of your medical conditions"

Don't kid yourself, Jason! He would have moved your case back three times anyway, because he can't handle most situations, either.

Well i had entirely different treatment from this 'person' and can not publish my true feelings publicly. I am however in contact with intelligent organizations and superiors who will take the time to review the lack of integrity, honesty, and competence required for his position, and if I had my way, would like nothing better than to see him removed from what is clearly a job that is well above his capabilities.

This Judge can not hear half of what goes on in his hearing room. Be prepared to repeat half of everything you say and if he doesn't ask you to repeat it, assume he never heard it.

Allegedly feels that the disability attorneys who appear in front of him are terrible lawyers. Yet as a Judge, he recently showed up at his hearing office at 9am, had hearings on his calendar beginning at 8am, and apparently had no idea he even had hearings. How can a federal judge not know he has hearings when he arrives at court? These hearings are potentially the most important proceedings in a claimant's life and he shows up late and even worse, unprepared.

This is a judge who is aware of the fact that many who are applying for disability are acutally human beings with true medical problems. He looks at the facts of the case in a fair manner. However, he also connects with you on another personal level and I think, uses this to judge a person's character. This judge and his actions and acute awareness of the meaning of justice restores my confidence in the goodness, nobility, and humility of humanity

Beyond arrogant. Could care less about adjudicating a claimant's case and spends more time delaying decisions and holding unnecessary supplemental hearings. The guy failed as a commissioner of the ny workers comp board and ran off to be a disability judge because it was an easier gig. Completely anti-attorney. Make sure you get every single thing on the record and object early and often with this guy.

Generally not a fair judge. He can sometimes sit on post hearing decision for 1 year. Does a lot of post hearing development. He often writes scare tactics letters to doctors, implying that they could be in some sort of trouble by writing a favorable RFC. He also questions, the doctors about fees they may have received for writing their report.
