I had a hearing with ALJ Roscoe yesterday. I have overwhelming fears of judges, condescending men, and discussing my mental health issues in just about any capacity. I can’t even think about these things without inducing panic. When I learned he’d be my ALJ, I did a little research and was petrified from the reviews I read and his very low ratings. To make matters worse, my attorney prepared me for a brutal slaying an hour before my hearing, which resulted in an uncontrollable crying fit & panic attack DURING THE ENTIRETY OF MY HEARING. My attorney told me how mean he is and tends to be generally everything I fear most. To my surprise, he was none of those things. He did clear his throat a few times which made me feel he was annoyed with my responses. I was in a panic attack so I can’t help or control that. But I don’t blame him. I was a complete wreck. I had not at all anticipated my reaction. He was exactly what I would expect from a judge. Entirely business, professional, and other than the throat clearing, he was completely to the point and factual. He didn’t ask me a single question, my attorney did that part. Overall, I feel judge Roscoe is not at all a bad guy. He’s definitely firm, and strictly business.. that does not make him someone to be feared. I wish I was advised better. I may not have had the meltdown/breakdown I did. I don’t know whether or not he intends to approve me (I completely expect a unfavorable decision) but I got the impression he may have already made up his mind. And since my attorney waited an hour before my hearing (and while also preparing for another hearing right before mine) to get to know me and my case file, and to inform me that my Medical records weren’t very good, including misinformation and a lack of therapy notes, I was set up for failure from the beginning BY MY ATTORNEY. So I wouldn’t blame the ALJ for finding me unfavorable. He can only go by facts. Which my attorney dropped the ball on. Judge Roscoe, in my opinion, was actually a very good ALJ. It’s not his job to coddle claimants. It’s his job to review facts and make a decision on those facts. The irony is my attorneys firm has stellar reviews, ALJ has bad reviews. The experience I had was opposite of what you’d expect. So don’t base your entire mind/decision on reviews.

I thought he took the time to listen to me regarding my daughter’s disability. Even though I did not agree with the teachers statement, he seemed to understand that I am her parent & I know my child more.

You are very rude and disrespectful. I started to turn around the minute I walked in the room because your first words were sarcastic stating sorry for your long wait I had an attorney in the hearing before you who doesn’t know when to shut up. Then I could barely talk. I felt like I was being scolded for not parenting the way you would in my situation after answering questions and hearing your responses and you act like you were a doctor criticizing medical treatments. You are unfair and should step down because you are bitter from doing that job that you already have in your mind a negative perception of the people you serve. Your judgement is biased based off of how you feel and not what is outlined by social security administration. Go into a different field

Judge Roscoe was arrogant, condescending, and just flat out rude. He barely let me complete my responses without interrupting me. Thought he was a doctor and contradicted what symptoms I should have for one of my diseases even when both I and my doctors notes stated what my symptoms are. Grumpy, jaded judge.

This judge is terrible, does not care…tries to intimidate you….I don’t think he likes women. I have had 8 surgeries on my back and he has denied me twice…I have worked for 35 years and have paid into ss……his decision was very unfair….this judge needs to retire
