Very sarcastic, and ridiculed my mother into crying. He smirked they entire time and stayed off topic. He was very unprofessional and didn’t even do an oath. I hope he rots. He couldn’t even tell me his name.
Truly, he’s a good judge- believe it or not– just wants the reps to earn their money and to make sure the truth is being testified and brought forth during the hearing. Credibility goes a long way with this judge. As far as treatment of claimants– no words to describe. Sadly, even seeing these comments above in print will have no effect. I just wish some of the raw edges could be smoothed and the abrasiveness put to rest.
Bullied my client into an emotional breakdown. Rude to the extreme. I know my cases forwards and backwards and I still come away feeling like a terrible lawyer. Went so far as to pick on the WAY my client filled out routine paperwork.
Be ready for 45 minutes of torture.
Pope is not the worst judge ever. Believe me, with a 44% approval rating, that’s better than some whose approval rating is as low as 10%. Pope’s attitude is a good candidate for the worst ever. He is profoundly rude to claimants, but in my experience will not take liberties with a well prepared representative. If he knows that the representative knows the case backwards and forwards, he quickly goes from “Insult” Mode to “Let’s Make a Deal” mode. He’ll typically throw out a ridiculous proposal to amend the onset. You must then be ready to give him a good counter-offer based on the evidence, which still ensures you get paid! If you do, he will likely accept the representative’s proposed amended onset. Knowing how to deal with Pope is more than half the battle.

Bad man
wont let you talk
I agree nasty attitude
It must be the robe
Anywhere else he would get his clock cleaned
Bet he doesn’t talk to people outside like that
I am disabled, back gone, fighting prostate cancer at 62
Doctors form said I can work 2 hrs
Should be a no-brainer
I will report results in 30 days
Wins my vote for ALJ with the worst Napoleonic Complex. Why do some people think that wearing a black robe gives one license to be rude to people?
Also, be warned that this ODAR (and the clerks and security guard) is one of the poorly organized (and some clerks are lazy) in the nation? The security guard actually makes you remove your shoes, then scans the BOTTOMS of your feet for bombs (I kid you not!!). LOL. This office is straight from Central Casting for the Beverly Hillbillies meets Deliverance!!
Perhaps this explains Pope’s nastiness. After working there every day for years….

Worst. Judge. Ever.
