Maybe she doesn't work and cannot perform the ALJ duties. She doesn't work much. How are these people getting these jobs.

Just awful. She has no idea what she is doing. She rejects countless medical expert opinions of her own expert witness! Finally, she waits over a year to make a decision in almost every case.

This "judge" is horrendous. I am waiting for 31 months now for her decision. Of course when you call the SSA office, the answer is you can do nothing but wait. The last time I called they told me to stop calling and bothering the office with unnecessary inquiries that obviously I have a complicated case (which I don't, I have a qualifying condition) and the ALJ will rule when she is ready to. Meanwhile, I sit here with no insurance and my doctor's office patient rep told me she was going to prevent me from seeing the doctor any longer until I get my medicare in order.

An unethical and lazy judge. If you are assigned this judge, consider your case lost. She doesn't listen to testimony during the Hearing and then defaults to what the Adjudicators have already ruled.

Janet Aker findings and determining are lies and differ from the facts . In black and white her denial differs from what vocational expert said in hearing . Judged me on my appearance. Racist I think. I have a three vertibra fusion in my back , and left arm fracture with a rod as hardware. No physical evidence here . LIar .How does one become a judge being as blind and twisted as she ?

I've never been treated so rudely or disrespected in all my life. Judge's mood changes from being nice to being very hateful. You never no if she's going to be nice, talkative and smiling, or if she's going to DEGRADE and BELITTLE you. So sad. Very unprofessional, and hard to believe she was hired as an Administrative Law Judge. She needs to be re-trained and take an etiquette class.

Having him as a judge pretty much put the nail in the coffin of my case and of my life, realistically. I cannot live much longer with the disorder I have, and I will not be living much longer. My medical documentation has made clear that this is completely disabling and there is no way I can have a normal life with this problem. I used a law firm to help me with the case, and everyone in the firm was appalled by his decision to deny my case. I had medical records from doctors in two states at some of the most prestigious hospitals (but apparently not enough for him) during the window where I had health insurance and could visit doctors regularly. With a disability, you can't always work or afford to see doctors before the ACA allowed for everyone to have insurance. But somehow I was expected to have thousands of dollars for even MORE doctor visits to the same doctors to say MORE of the same thing? Why? I was not planning to apply for disability like so many scam artists do. I was continuing to see if I could be successfully treated and kept being told I could not be treated... only could be managed to a certain degree because this is very rare (few doctors even treat it or understand it) and very difficult to treat. Finally, I could no longer work and tried to do other things (which apparently made me look too competent - that I can go grocery shopping?) - and the clock started running out on my chance to file for disability. My lawyer said (and this happened) that Anglada pretends like he can't hear you during the hearing. I have no idea why he does this but it is incredibly frustrating. In the judgement, it was so obvious he made up his mind within minutes of ending the hearing and just had his staff write the judgement that he signed. I had so many medical files supporting me, but he cherry picked the information that he was going to use to support the decision he already made to deny my benefits.

He had his mind made up before the hearing approval rating nation wide 62% at a hearing. My God Armstrong's is 15% I had no chance at all. KY quit hearings here and now are run video from Chicago he compared my problems with a different case all together. 28 months of waiting for this I am applying on my own again and turning in everything i possibly can and hope i never have to see another one of these judges again. I am losing my place to live being evicted from the land i rent to put my mobile home on my landlord will take it he knows i can't afford to move it, everythings being turned off. Me and my kids will be on the street my x husband has stage 3 cancer no child support he can't work. I hope this judge feels the pain i do right now it would kill him to be where i'm at he couldn't handle it.

O.K. This is my second attempt to share my comments about Judge Armstrong. Before my hearing my lawyer had me so stressed, I took triple my stress medication. He told me not to say anything only yes or no to any question, let him do the talking. So I guess it was my fault I was denied. Judge Armstrong was such a Gentleman, I answered all questions he asked. I do not remember much of my hearing but when someone treats me as a person and not just a number. I respect that person. YES my case was denied, I have appealed. I feel my case was not presented properly. I did not get to see what my lawyer presented before hand. a lot of what was presented was wrong. He did not put my new Doctors diagnosis. So if I lose this I will file again WITHOUT A LAWYER. Thanks.....

Don't be fooled by this judge's pleasant demeanor. He's no-nonsense, but will treat you nicely. But. This is a judge who believes that most people who are disabled are trying to game the system and just want a way to take an early retirement. If you have lived a decent, law-abiding, hard-working, middle-class life, getting disability is no fun pay day. You aren't getting to live high on the hog. It allows you to eat. That's pretty much it. If he bothered looking at the whole person, what kind of life they led, the kind of work they did, what is preventing them from doing so now, he'd see that most people aren't just burger flippers or factory workers on their feet whose vague claims of back pain seek to get them out of a hard-working, low pay existence. Many of us loved our jobs and never wanted to stop. We were paid well and led middle-class lives. We would not seek disability unless our pain and conditions made working unbearable. If you are being treated by doctors and specialists, and are on heavy pain meds; have given up your good life and existed in relative poverty, waiting to be awarded a pittance so you can now just put enough food on your table, this judge, like a certain percentage, should, take this into account, but don't. Compassion is left at the door. It should not be the overwhelming criteria that decides cases, but a modicum of human decency, when recognized, can help make a difference if he and others of his bent would actually see the person sitting before them. We are not numbers, to be caught up in judges trying to redress a balance of leniency. But that is how we're viewed. And then they go home and sleep, impervious to people who really can't work, who then become homeless. Who must rely on friends and family to eat. If you are unlucky enough to get a conservative judge, whose only focus is to comply with the push to curb what they see as runaway disability approvals, your case will fall victim to a numbers game. Judges like Paul Armstrong will likely only approve cases that are most likely terminal, or something incredibly catastrophic, like paralysis from a stroke. Otherwise, you are looking at a flat, outright denial. My disability lawyer sighed and apologized when discovering who my judge was. He tried to keep a glimmer of hope alive by telling me to keep positive, maybe I'd be part of the miniscule approval. But we both knew what the odds were. If you are unfortunate enough to recieve this judge, I'm really sorry. Your case will not be judged fairly. Period.

I was the last person for the day for my appeal hearing with Judge Bruce. I represented myself for this hearing. Judge Bruce was very thorough and asked me many questions as I stood and sit over the course of 1.5 hours. He was absolutely wonderful and kind and understood that I am unable to sit for longer than 10 minutes at a time and he was empathetic to this, which I appreciated very much. He commented on the fact that he's never seen anyone prepare their own case as well and as thorough as I had and he asked why I couldn't do work if I could do this case. I explained that I am very thorough and it took me a year to prepare my case. I could not put it together in a couple of weeks. During the appeal, Judge Bruce and the vocational expert went over my medical information, my past work and if there is any work that I could cross train to do. It was determined that there is no work in the national registry that I could do considering my lengthy list of illnesses at age 44. I was awarded full benefits during the hearing and the proceedings were stopped. The vocational expert closed his book and was ready to leave while the Judge and I wrapped up. He didn't even need to speak with the two witnesses that I brought with me. If you get Judge Bruce you should feel very privileged. He is kind, empathetic, looks you in the eye, gives you time to say what you need to say and he is genuinely "real". I'm very grateful to him for these things. I don't have to pay an attorney 1/3 of my back pay and I won my case all on my own. Yay!

Yay!

I was fortunate enough to have Judge Bruce. He is a very good listener asks many questions and is very knowledgeable. I just wish I could have asked about insurance, my attorney informed me that if approved for disability I would have to wait a year or so for insurance don't understand that concept, that means no meds or dr appt for me. But I feel that Judge Bruce was a very good Judge to have went in front of treated you like a person and was interested in you.

Still waiting on the denial letter to come in the mail to see why he denied me. Vocational expert and he narrowed it down to 0 jobs. Still got denied. I don't understand how they can deny you if you can't do any of the jobs they find for you. Second time this has happened to me. 2 different judges. Makes you want to give up, but if you are truly disabled, you have no other choice, but to try again. I guess I will have to go the federal level. I hope they are more compassionate and empathetic than the state judges. That should take another year or more to wait for a hearing. Not homeless yet, but could be soon. Very hopeless.

He also denied my case. I have lupus and many other problems, but what hurt me was when I heard snickering when it came to my weight. All the things that are wrong with me and they're telling me that I could go back doing to what I used to do. Nothing like a complete stranger to make me feel more worthless than I already am thank you judge! Do you think I enjoy all these things wrong with me do you think I enjoy not being able to do anything? I can't believe how you went on about my weight that really hurt and how you just said I'm sad about my mom passing away I'm not sad I'm devastated I pray these things that happen to me do not happen to your family members but I'm sure you would approve their disability claim.I knew it wasn't good news when that love letter came too fast after my hearing.

Her approval rating speaks for itself. Denied with a 17 page report that completely didnt even acknowledge one of the main issues spoken about for a good 45 minutes of the hearing. The rest of the report was her stating her petsonal opinions. Apparently you have to be incapable of carrying on a conversation and must stare at a wall all day to be approved. Very disappointing

Judge Diane Davis denied my disability claim but I have nothing bad to say about her. I felt a little confused reading the denial where it stated that I can take care of my mentally disabled 37-year old daughter (Meningitis at 8 months). Well, it's either me trying to help her or her trying to help me. The latter is not possible! We're both in need but I'm her father! As financially strapped as we are - I'll crawl to another job if I have to! It's sad that there are so many fraudsters seeking disability that it hinder folks like me - who need help, not just financially but medically!

Judge Ellis, is a very fare person she knows the law & she knows it well. If you truly are disabled she will know she evaluate every aspect of the case. But for those who are not disabled tryna get a free ride. SHE is going to KNOW, and u will get denied

Fair she is not! She was hostile and largely verbally abusive, and openly stated at my video hearing she "didn't believe 37 year old could be disabled for life". (Discrimination 1) In my denial letter, she referenced my single parent status multiple times as a basis for denial. (Discrimination 2). Also in my denial letter, she threw out all of my primary care physician's diagnoses, even though i've seen him for 13 years. Ssa policy states the long term primary care opinions are to carry "controlling weight" in all decisions. (Evidence of bias 1) By throwing out his medical evidence, she was free to cherry pick the remaining evidence supplied by doctors who have never examined me in order to create her unfavorable decision, and threw out any part of their opinions that remotely supported my disability. (Evidence of bias 2) FYI SSA policy on non examining doctors opinions is that their opinions carry the least weight in the decision process. I'm filing a discrimination and bias grievance against her with both the Appeals Council as well as the Program Discrimination Complaint Adjudication Office. I strongly suggest anyone else who has been unfairly and prejudicely denied file with them as well. The only way to stop this type of treatment is to speak out. I am, and I hope you do as well.

Very unfortunate that someone could be so heartless and cold. It's good to ask questions to get to the truth, but this judge was verbally abusive with insults and condemnation. It's humbling enough to even have to apply for disability in the first place- it wasn't necessary for her to treat my spouse and I as though we were the scum of the Earth. Even with physical limitations that are quite visible, Judge Ellis makes a suicidal person even more suicidal. I pray that God will warm her heart because it is so very cold with the ice that flows through her veins. I'm disheartened by this process and how unjust it has been for families that legitimately need it.

I guess the person with the comment praising her must have been one of the few lucky ones to get approved. She was very rude to me and made me feel like i was a pathetic know body. I left there feeling like i wished i was dead because it was obvious to me she was going to deny me. She didn't just ask questions but repeatedly asked the same question over and over again and when i guess i didn't answer it the way she wanted me too she got very hostile towards me. I hope someone goes and reviews those court tapes and see how awful she was. She sent me to a ce afterwards for follow up evidence and what a rigged joke that was. The dr. only seen me for about 5 minutes but yet he knew everything about me in those 5 minutes to help her deny me. It is very sickening for me now with no more work credits to apply again and doubt I'll ever get a job that I will be able to do or keep because of my problems. Went through hell for 3 years waiting and having hope to get approved and it was all taking away by this one person who doesn't know me at all but just decided my case in a brief horrific encounter with me. I think this judge gets off on the power trip but one day she will be the one who is judged! My life is hanging by a thread my marriage has suffered greatly financially with no end in site. I have no health insurance, no job, no money and very depressed. I didn't even bother with an appeal because whats the use against a cruel, corrupted and fixed system. Hope she sleeps good at night. All this judge did is look for 1 small thing to deny me and overlook the reasons why you can't work. 1 reason i got denied was apparently I'm not suppose to be able to go to the grocery shopping every 2 weeks so no current disabled people don't shop, yeah right. I think it is amazing how close the above statistics are so close for denials and this judge gets the grand prize for denials. Also being denied and dismissed sounds the same to me. If you get this judge be very very prepared and even if you are she will make you feel like your not and for me having trouble speaking where I'm front and center and anxiety in these situations just done me in and know body cares and just looks the other way.

As I read these comments the night before my brother’s hearing, I was obviously nervous and sad . However, I was quickly at ease when she called me in to testify. She was nothing these reviews described. We had already had a hearing a few years ago. She really understood what was going on with my brother. I was awaiting the worst when in fact this intelligent human saw my brother for who he was and she did not act cruel one time. To say I appreciate her, is an understatement. Although we haven’t received the decision letter, I respect her for finally , after a lifetime of heartache of bad trauma my brother has endured, that she seen through it . She might have a low approval rate but in my eyes, I’m glad she doesn’t “give it away”. I see so many people and know a few personally that are receiving this SSA benefit who have no business receiving it . My disabled brother worked even when he shouldn’t have. He tried being a man and doing everything to maintain a job until he was told not to . This judge has a radar .. and she should. Much respect for Judge Ellis. And finally after all these years, I feel like my brother may finally get the benefits he deserves so very much .

All I can say is Ms. Deborah E. Ellis is a judge who should not be able to approve or deny people who are sick or disabled. Her day will come when she will be judged by God himself and she hopefully will realize then how much pain, suffering, and disappointment she caused to soo many people by denying them. She is does not act as a fair, reasonable judge. She is hostile, verbally abusive, and condescending. It will all come back to her one day. I pray for all the people that have to deal with her. She should be really disappointed in the work she does.

I had Judge Ellis in 2015 for a hearing! All the negative comments and complaints are spot on to the way she treated me as well! She obviously has no empathy at all or any understanding of vast amount of medical records and what they mean. She threw out several records of mine and used her own biased thinking to back up why my 6 hour exam done the month of my hearing was thrown out. Assuming things that where not based on a shred of truth, just her hunch! She really is awful and shouldn’t be allowed to done these hearings. I have a new decision pending and the ALJ this time treated me like a human being, that is all we are asking for, right?

Potassium 1 tablet a day, (because of the Lasix I take for my congestive heart failure); Furosemide 20mg 1 tablet a day, (to prevent water retention around my heart); Lisinopril 20mg 1 tablet twice a day, (for heart function); Metoprolol 50mg 1 tablet twice a day (for blood pressure); Atorvastatin 40mg 1 a day, (for cholesterol); Metformin 500 mg twice a day, (to control diabetes); Tylenol with Codeine, 1 tablet every four hours, (for fibro myalgia and degenerative disc disorder pain); 81mg aspirin, 1 a day to prevent stroke and control heart); melanoma cancer and now breast cancer. Tremor in left arm with severe weakness. This is what I take on a daily basis and I'm not considered disabled? I worked two jobs my entire life and served eight years in the United States Navy some of which was during ODS, and this is what my government and you Judge Ferrar consider fair. There are so many people out there cheating our system and you denied me my benefits that I paid into all my life. Because the State of Illinois wouldn't give me Medicaid, because I didn't fulfill their criteria for coverage at the time and couldn't see a doctor, because I didn't have any money or insurance, you decided I wasn't disabled. Your decision Judge Ferrar was not right in my case and you know it. Go after the cheaters who lie and get disability and have never worked or fought for this country.

Current medical/mental health team evidence was not even considered. The only evidence she deemed "persuasive" was the testimony of professionals that had not been seen in a very long time. Had a terrible disposition during hearing. Cut off Counsel and unbiased third parties during hearing in order to interject her opinion and clearly holds her own opinion above those of medical professionals.

He "throws the baby out with the bathwater." If anything you say doesn't match up, no matter how miniscule, he seizes on it and calls you a liar in fancy legalese. And apparently people seeking disability are not disabled and can work an 8 hour day, 40 hour week (as defined by SS law) if they use a smartphone―according to his accusatory comments. Never mind apps for the disabled; large keyboards, speech to text, just having a smartphone is a no no as well as a PC. I'm still wondering why an Illinois Republican SS judge is hearing State cases in Indiana and from a video feed in Illinois? His high approval rate is smoke and mirrors, a lot of his cases don't even show up and those are not factored in. The stats also only reflect his cases in Illinois, not other States like Indiana that he rents himself out to. He also discredits State agencies which is disturbing considering he is not even an Indiana judge and really has no idea how it differs from Illinois except maybe on paper. He also discredits Primary Care doctors the same way as a claimant, by nickle and diming their statements and making partial claims of claimant statements without expanding on what the claimant said afterwards. For example, if someone says that they use a smartphone but use apps to help the disabled, he leaves out that you use apps for the disabled and says you use a smartphone as if that in and of itself is a disqualifier. Or if your doctor says you are disabled, he will find in your record the one time you said you were feeling a bit better and latch onto that as meaning that it's permanent and that you can work 8 hours a day, 40 hours a week and that your doctor is unreliable. Oh and this post was created by speech to text, God forbid he thinks someone can type for 10 minutes, then they must be able to work! Truth be told it seems these SS Judges are the prime beneficiaries of SS funds through their exorbitant salaries, and not the people who it's actually there for. *Fina's public sector salary info is out there and it's an insult to taxpayers and he is but one judge. *In 2016, Joel G. Fina was an Administrative Law Judge at the Social Security Administration in Oakbrook Terrace, Illinois. began working at the Social Security Administration in 2006 with a starting salary of $115,555. Since then, Fina's salary has increased to $170,400 in 2016

I shouldn't even be here on God's green earth. I am currently taking 15 different medications. All of which intensifies my symptoms. Two different neurologist saying no need to see them again. All the medical records in the world. And by looking me up on "Facebook", he ignores medical reports and made a judgement on my life and denied me. Boy, I understand about the fraud thing, but this is ridiculous. Some people on it, don't really need it, and the people who need it, can't get it!!!

Judge Kramer was a fair judge. He listened to my case gave time for me and my lawyer to explain my case. he was very pleasant yet stern. I'm just waiting for my decision now.

If there is evidence in the file supporting the claim, he does a good job. If the evidence isn't very clear, he will likely deny the case.

I have appeared before this judge several times representing clients. He is fair, he is prepared, and he understands the law regarding disability claims. If you don't have good medical evidence (as noted by the other commenter on this page), what are you doing at a hearing? SSA can reverse any favorable decision that isn't based on medical records. Why would Judge Labrum waste time approving your claim based on your own personal account, without supporting medical evidence, when it's only going to be reversed when SSA appeals?

This judge has approval rating of 43% and apparently uses the same justification for all her cases. She states while the impairment is "severe" and there is objective evidence to support it, she does not agree with limitations and pain expressed. Who is she to know how much pain somoneone is in and how can she deny the medical evidence that supports the pain? Shameful..

This ALJ used to be in the NHC in Chicago. Her award rate has been fairly consistent. She is pleasant, sometimes ready to start hearings early. She asks for opening and then she questions claimant. A good, strong work history is always a plus. She will do bench decisions too. In my experience this ALJ is very fair. All judges have to formuate opinions on crediblity and severity of symptoms.

When the court started judge Lariccia read off to me my condition. She had not read all my medical and when told this at the hearing she still could not accessit without my lawyers help. She went into the hearing with precocieved notions and never changed them. When the vocational counselor from the state went over jobs he stated i couldnot perform light duty with my conditions I stated to the Judge. In her decision Judge Lariccia said she agrees with the doctor that I have severe pain but I can still perform a light duty job. Then she spelled out what i could perform as it relates to lifting. Noware in any reports or FCE did it say I could do that. Also she said the vocational couselor said I could perform light duty with my spoken evidence. He never said that. I faxed in a release for the hearing proceedings and never recieved them. In my opinion Judge Lariccia was not prepared for the case, and looking at her basis for decision she never read all the medical.

Very unhappy this judge mixing up all the facts in the case and also not looking into the misdiagnosis on my case file. I had severe pain in my back upper and lower and possible nerve damage, I was bed ridden for months even and currently in physical therapy. The judge had the vocational counselor come out and tell me I could do work in a factory which indeed could harm my health condition, I could not believe this when I heard it. Not only did the judge make many assumptions she thought I was just perfectly fine, she took everything out of context and reversed it backwards on me. I even sent her more evidence as to her mistakes in her judgements, she never looked at my case and dismissed everything.. my new evidence and xrays , Dr's letters etc. The fact my case was from the get go misdiagnosed and my previous condition of 15 years erased and now I am classified as having some mental condition I was appalled and disgusted with this I will surely appeal with a lawyer. No wonder she has a 43% approval rating, thanks for the facts.

I just wanted to say a few things. I have epilepsy, both gran mal and petit mal seizures. 2-3 gran mal a month, 4-5 petit mal a month. In my condition I cannot walk or drive to any job or even work at a job without an episode happening that could cause a life threatening injury for that matter. This is proven in my medical records. Yet somehow despite my claim medical records and all the evidence, Judge Lee Lewin denied me. Soon i will be forced to drive to a job so I can make ends meet where I will be in danger of having a seizure in hazardous places. Each day of my life is a roll of the dice not knowing when its coming or where I will be. I hope you can sleep at night. It makes me sick. You have no idea what i go through. I hope you read this.

I have never had a hearing with this ALJ present in the room. Always by video from Chicago. Very rude and accusatory tone with claimants. Poor judicial temperament. If I had to guess, I'd say he worked in insurance defense before he became an ALJ, and still thinks his role is the same as a PI defense attorney rather than adjudicator. I have had 4 hearings in front of this guy and only one favorable.

I can't believe the US Government allows Judges, like him to make accusations and judgment on individuals that are truly disabled and their medical records speak for themselfs. This Judge has put a hold on our lives and hopefully something can be done about this. We want to wish him a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year, something we are not having this year!

In reference to my post on November 20, 2012: After receiving this judge's unfavorable decision, I personally filed a new claim for disability on behalf of my husband. No attorney involved. My husband was granted disability within 4 WEEKS!!!! 4 WEEKS! Tell me he wasn't disabled when he went before Judge Marceille. (right). In the end, we won, however, due to this judge's decision, my husband was not qualified to receive the 3 years back pay that he was due. Thank you SO much Judge.

I wanted to send a letter of appreciation to Honorable Denise M Martin. After 2 years and 2 denials COVID-19 hit and the ability to go before an Administrative Law Judge was going to take an unknown amount of time. I was given the choice of waiting until in person reviews would start again or do a virtual review with a Judge from another state. I chose to wait as I wanted to be able to allow the Judge the opportunity to see me as a person. I was astonished when I received a letter from The Social Security Administration that my case and all medical information had been reviewed by The Honorable Denise M Martin and my case was approved. This was like a gift from God. Thank you Judge for seeing me as a person if only on paper. I cannot ever express fully my appreciation. God Bless You.

Heavily biased against the mentally ill. Cherry-picks statements from doctors to support her own conclusions while completely ignoring the opinions of other treatment professionals. Focuses on minor issues such as grooming (she puts a *lot* of stock in appearance) and uses them to make completely unfounded allegations of malingering. If you haven't had the money to obtain tests or get treatment for a problem, she'll use it against you. Takes your own words out of context, twists them around, and makes it appear as if you said something you didn't. Dismisses evidence when it's inconvenient. This sorry excuse for a human being has her mind made up in advance and if it's set against you, you're screwed. I would give her no stars if possible. Thanks, Judge, for calling me a liar, relying entirely on what that fool of a doctor said, ignoring the views of the person who sees me every week (if you'd read her notes you'd know I'm really not that well-groomed), contradicting yourself, saying I refuse to take one class medication I actually take (could've just checked the list I gave you) and failing to notice that I had to tell Dr. Useless THREE TIMES that I COULDN'T take another class because the side effects are too severe. I don't have the energy to go to the appeals council. I'm done.

While this judge did approve my SSI they requested that I have a representative payee. The reason being for this was they say that I have a daa or drug and alcohol abuse problem. I got a DUI when I was 19 and use medical marijuana to control my seizures which have caused me to be clinically dead over seven times. These two things were enough for the judge to decide that I am incapable of managing my own expenses. The term daa is outdated and the DSM defines substance use disorders as maladaptive patterns of substance use that lead to clinically significant impairment or distress. Current medical use of cannabis would not be considered maladaptive but for some reason this judge thinks so. The substance use disorder is described as when a person's use of alcohol or another substance leads to health issues or problems at work, school, or home. My neurologist is fully aware of my cannabis use and I was advised to wait on a card for medical use until after I was approved for SSI since it is only legal at a state level. This judge and their determinations are a joke and extremely biased.

I reviewed the comments about all Chicago Judges; I had a hearing before her and she seems knowledgeable and listened, she allowed the hearing to last over an hour. Other comments about the Chicago judges seem to be sour grapes by Obama supporters. They got the President and the Administration they asked for, now live with it.

Pretty argumentative judge she tends to give a medical opinion about the case and cites to the record incorrectly.. Listen close you will need to correct her characterization of the medical evidence. Submitted a brief in the case and she did not read it before the hearing but still asked for a theory of the case wanting the attorney to repeat everything in the brief? Huh ...she has a pretty good approval rating so I am hopeful the decision will be favorable. If you are an attorney just be on your toes about how she characterizes the medical evidence. Will quiz your client about medications even though you have submitted med list she still expects the client to have them memorized even when they are a few pages long.

Keep in mind when I added this note she had a 45% approval rating?? Not a very nice judge. She is very argumentative with the attorney as soon as you go on the record. Hearings can last about 2 hours she requires the client to bring all medications they are on as well. She will quiz the client about ALL medications and exactly which medication they take for what impairment. In addition she will need a simple outline of each treating doctor the client is seeing and for what condition they are seeing that particular doctor for (again it just doesn't seem she reads the records or the brief before hearing)but again she will argue why a family doctor is treating for specific impairments. She is very argumentative and tends to give medical opinion about your case while citing incorrectly or mischaracetrizing the evidence. It is apparent she does NOT read briefs and for that fact she reads very little of the medical records that is how she mischaraterizes so much of the medical records. Example: in my case she argued (yep) that my client only had one back impairment when several were listed and really counselor it's all the same (when no they are not) she will argue and try to get you to stipulate to her reasoning. VE: she uses a VE but wants to skip over listing out the jobs the national numbers and the local numbers. She will again ask the attorney to stipulate that there are jobs without listing them out. No doubt her hearings are ripe for appeal but need to take very detailed notes stay on your toes and if you do go to AC with an appeal GET THE TRANSCRIPT OF THE HEARING.

Judge Kathleen Mucerino was great. She was well prepared for my case and asked questions that pertained to my disability. She spoke respectfully and never seemed as if she was uninterested in my case. My lawyer had spoken to me over the phone prior to my hearing and said that she might come off as being short and hard with her questions. It was nothing like that. I was a little nervous going into the hearing, but within minutes, my mind was at ease. I believe that she use my statements and make a well educated decision.

I don't know her decision yet. But I am very concerned about it as she made a remark at the end that I will NEVER forget. She said "You must understand that it is very hard for me to label someone your age disabled for the rest of your life." I have a progressive autoimmune disease that has NO cure and NO real treatment. It WILL get worse and it WILL eventually take my life. I am in my forties with the health of someone almost twice my age. I pray that she fully understands this and my need to help care for myself and my family. I am scared because of her statement. The unknown is the worst part.

I found this judge to be through, professional and well prepared. She was personable while being efficient even though my appearance was over an hour long. All of the personal (the vocational and the note taker) in her court were clearly on the same page as Judge Mucerino. It seemed to me that they have worked together for awhile. The only question I had after leaving is when the "on set" date of my disability would be considered. According to my attorney it could be the date of application (June 2011)or perhaps the date I stopped working June 2010. An argument could be made that while I continued to work I was in fact disabled I 2006. Since I have no idea of the rules determining this I will rely on the Judge for a determination. No matter the decision I am confident that it will be correct.

She has no idea though it won't cure my illness and disability it has enabled me to survive. I thank her so much may God Bless her!! Great judge !!! Fair and honest

This Judge is either incompetent or plain mean. She didn't review records going forward from 2015 and my illness is much worse. Further, she misquoted the occupational therapist regarding my ability to work saying I could stoop, kneel, etc. I told her in the hearing I can't even use my bath tub because I can't use my arms and legs to get out. I requested a CD of the hearing to make sure I remembered it correctly and I did. I'm filing an appeal but because of her incomplete and inaccurate decision, my home will be foreclosed. I have worked continuously for 47 years and she had all my records. I'm on 12 medications which she didn't address at all. This is just another indication of our terrible government at work. Sad sad sad. They have my money and I'm losing everything.

I learned if your medical records were not considered accurately, the hearing information was mis-translated in the decision letter, and you know you were treated unfairly, you can issue a formal complaint against the ALJ who mishandled your case. Go to SSA.GOV and search on complaint against ALJ. Anyone who feels their claim was mishandled should file an appeal and a complaint. This is what this judge did to me and I have MRSA, home up for foreclosure on 9/20 and AC has been out for a week. I worked for 47 years. I have been unable to work since 5/2014, used my 401K, sold everything I could and very sick. I wouldn't want this if I could go back to work. I hate not working. Being on Medicaid, I can't get the medical treatment I need. I told her these things. In the letter, she stated she only reviewed my records up to 2015. I couldn't believe it. I paid in for all 47 years and I am about to end up homeless!

My recent hearing with JUDGE KATHLEEN MUCERINO turned out to be a 100 times better than I expected. I was expecting a judge who's sat for hundreds of hearings and really didn't care about the person who was probably staking their future on the outcome. But I realized right away that she was carefully listening, asking smart questions, and showed a real interest in my situation. And I also expected a fast sitting with standard questions from the judge just to move on to the next hearing so they could break for lunch!! I actually was dying to receive the results to my hearing as opposed to the opposite when I entered the heating. I would love to run into JUDGE MUCERINO some time to just be able to thank her for the way she made my hearing go. It felt like one of my luckiest days of my life !!

Judge Nagle really seems to understand the disability process. I have appeared before dozens of ALJs in disability cases in Southern New Jersey and Philadelphia and I rank her among the top three. I look forward to having cases with her in the future.

Reversed and remanded again! A judge cannot lie and claim evidence does not exist when it clearly does.

Extremely fair judge with a pleasant demeanor. She gets right to the point and does not waste time with unnecessary questions. She is very respectful of the Claimant and can be interactive with counsel. She handles most of the questioning and the hearings last 30-45 minutes.

took the time to explain the law to me so I understood it. explained that if I did not have medical records before my insurance date ended I was not going to get disability. she spent time to help me figure out where I went to the doctor and then said she would try to get those records. don't think i'll get disabilty based on what she said, but at least she cares enough to try.

Some people's are saying negative stuff about judge Poulsbo but she was my judge and i don't agree to this nagstivety . She seems fair I don't know what went on in your case but something went wrong may be your evident toward your case or you lied about something and she called you out on it. Look before my case I Google this judge and i came across all this negativity about her and when my court date came around I was soooo scared that this judge so I went in the court room nervous and shaking in my shoes but I was truthful to the answers she asked. Then with all be in said she was not a bad judge so stop making people's nervous and scared with all this back lash if your case went wrong with her for what ever reason but if your not gone tell the entire story of your case to the point of the negative stuff keep your thought to yourself because it is terrifying to someone who has this judge for there case. I don't mean any harm I just know what the negativity did to me.

Overly upset about my decision this judge has made learning that she is a former attorney turned judge judge Poulose really do not understand the cases or people she making decisions for maybe age has something to do with it I do not live in the Chicago IL area and she was my judge and looking through my paper work she does not ask the right questions or hyperthetical questions like she never asked “Do you do those activities on or off your medications” she never ask about medications anyway so how do she determines who has a disability claim or determines if you are not disabled when she does not ask the real questions.

Judge Cherry picks medical information and loves to find claimants as discreditable. As how would she know? As a Judge who is certainly has a discrimination for people who have disabilities. My advice is to appeal in Federal Court. Many cases have been heard and won there as these ALJ'S have been repeatedly warned on how they deny claimants. Her record speaks for itself and Judges like this Social Security Loves as our Nation is broke and so is Social Security as Trillions pour overseas for failed outcomes. These Judges should be voted in by the public and held accountable for their actions. Not how it is set up now which stakes the deck against you. The heartache is real but keep fighting and get a good attorney for Federal Court. The merit of your case will win out.

I had a positive experience with this judge. She listened to me,asked alot of questions, and based her judgement on the facts of my case, and my testimony. She was fair and respectful to me, and that is what you want in an ALJ. If you happen to have Judge Smiley assigned to hear your case, you will have a fair chance. Good luck to you.

I pray anyone who gets this judge reads this. This Judge asked the VE in my husband's case one hypothetical question about having to elevate his feet. The VE said there were no jobs. This caused the lawyer to not cross examine. Well the judge denied his claim saying he didn't believe he was being truthful about the intensity or persistence of his pain and need to elevate his feet. So no other limitations were addressed such as missed work due to his pain condition etc. Three years we've been going through hardships and our shot in court was stolen from us because the judge used trickery and the lawyer fell for it. This judge is here to deny claims and he's good at it! Our family is broken. Be aware and make sure your lawyer is aware

I have not received my judgement yet but Judge Spalo and his assistants had the room at ease.. He asked questions and got an understanding of my serious condition... In which I pray is justified.. My lawyer and I have an understanding and I feel the truth Will set me free...

I read the comment above about trickery. I certainly agree. He is very unfair and he makes It to where your own attorney thinks it's going good, when in fact it's not. If the V.E thinks there's jobs for you then you'll lose your case. Period!! Even if you can't preform it with your limitations. William Spalo, doesn't even take your own Doctors opinion into consideration, if they believe your disabled. He will pick apart their opinion and medical evidence. He will also twist your words around. Also, make sure when they send you to their Doctors that they document your limitations. If they agree your disabled, It must be in writing why? They may not even help your case. It seems to me that he does his job anyway he can to deny your claim. Hopefully, my friends attorney appeals his ruling. In his ruling they're so many discrepancy. I can't believe he's still a judge.

I think William Spalo was a wonderful, fair and sweet honest judge. He listens to both sides carefully, he actually let me talk freely, somewhat, but that's way more than any other judges. He was so sweet about my legs and my blood clots he actually got off the stand and helped me put my legs up! He was a great judge! He gets back to you with a decision within 30 to 40 days. He got back to me before 30 days. He was great. My other judge was so different! She didn't let me say anything, constantly said my doctors were of no credibility which only hers were. She also took months to give me a decision! This judge listened to both doctors. Very refreshing and very friendly and makes you feel at ease considering most of us have been through so much already. I honestly think he is great. Winning or not, I would say the exact same thing, no matter my outcome. I couldn't have asked for a better judge. He really seems to care a lot about people. I wish I could thank him for being so great! He is wonderful at his job.

Judge has one of the highest denial rates in this office. Even though these hearings are non-adversarial, he conducts hearings as if claimants are on trial. One can tell he has already made up his mind before the hearing. Not surprising when you research his background -- he use to be the Attorney for the Office of General Counsel, Social Security Administration (in other words, he argued on behalf of SSA when claimants appealed their decision to the federal court). When giving hypotheticals to vocational experts, he conveniently leaves out key limitations. In short, go in planning to appeal -- therefore, make the record clear, object, and cross-examine witnesses so you can have appealable issues.

Well I would have to give him less than zero. I am going blind due to an inherited eye disease called retinitis pigmentosa. I have no periphreal vision left, I cannot see outside of the rim of my water glass. I have fallen down a flight of stairs leaving me with 2a bulges in my vertebrae, I was told by the state medical eye examiner that I am legally blind and am not allowed to drive. The depression from going blind is too much to bear, I cry almost every day. First my eyes are failing now I cant drive. I am a genetic defect and it is not my fault. This disease affects only. 05% of the entire world and there is no cure. It leads to complete tunnel vision, where you can only see through a hole, and then it leads to complete blindness. I waited 22before months in agony, hungry, worried, terrified because I cannot get the help I need, and then a denial by judge studzinski. I need more than anything to go to the guild for the blind in chicago where I was invited to learn braille and mobility training and join a support group. I am so mentally unstable with depression I cannot express my agony in words. There are no words to describe my fear. I have been dealing with the loss of vision since 2006. It is so far gone now that I am afraid I wont get the help I need when I go blind. I am terrified I wont be prepared. I dont know if I can make it as a blind person at all. I can thank judge studzinski for making my life worse than it has ever been. Close your eyes for an entire day and imagine being blind. I would rather be in a wheel chair with no arms or legs.I cry all day and it hurts so bad that noone will help someone going blind.

This is a continuation of my previous post. I was denied social security by judge studzinski on august 20th and today august 24th i recieved a letter from medicaid applied on june of 2012the saying I am eligible for medicaid for the BLIND starting september 1st 2012.This judge is not only less than zero he is bias, discriminatory, and sick. I am going BLIND for Gods sake and this man has the lowest respect I have ever had for another human being. If I can I am filing charges against him in Hammond federal court. This is a discrace against the needy and the blind and he should be made accountable for my poverty hunger and confinement to my house. I cant go get help from the guild for the blind, no, he said I should return to work. And p.s. the medicaid people said it was doctor jason brooks, social securities own doctor for the state of indiana that signed my papers for the blind and p.s.s attorney tom scully is the worst lawyer ive ever witnessed. I have never heard or seen such an unproffesional, missing half my documents, unprepared loser in my life. I am ashamed of the law that represented me and i am even more ashamed of judge studzinski.

On page 13 of 15 Judge Studzinski argued the opinion of "suzanne lee" saying he "thinks my vision is more like 25%I which does not meet ssa guidelines. He didnt bother to look at the signature of the doctor. Jason Brooks is my doctor. I was sent to him by the social security administration. Judge Studzinski is arguing that his own state appointed doctor for the social security administration. He states that the medical examiner for the state of indiana and representing the social security administration is incorrect. How could this be Judge Studinski? And his tests were included in the finding to support this. Those test results were in your opinion not satisfactory as commented at my hearing. Well, why do they have tests for blindness then? Why does the state of indiana employee state appointed doctors to tell social security the truth. Like I said, he wants to go above a medical experts decisionand create his own. What has happened to me is a tradegy and a disgrace. I hope this never happens to anyone else with this condition in any other state, by any other Judge.

His exact words as described by social securities own medical examiner on line 12 "patient has less than 20 degrees of visual field which meets the ssd definition of legal blindness". I guess a judge, not a doctor let alone the states own medical examiner knows what I can see. Well, he does not. He is not a doctor or a specialist of the eye. I cannot believe this judge is allowed to sit on a bench and make up whatever story he wants about my vision and its allowed. Thats why the state has their own state appointed doctors. So that there can be an accurate and legally binding decision made about blindness. If it were up to the judges to decide without legal decisions from their own doctors it would be a farse like this. This is illegal and it is wrong to make up your own findings and decisions. Thats what medical doctors for the state are here for. To help people like me and keep people that lie from lying.

as an attorney who has been in front of him, i have to agree that he spends a lot of time letting you know he needs to be shown evidence on every little point. he treats everyone with little respect (by talking over attorneys and claimants to make any point he thinks is important and questioning claimants as if they are all liars) and clearly looks for any reason to give everyone a hard time. he questions treating source opinions as if the doctors will just say anything to help a claimant.

I received my Letter of Denial from Judge Edward Studzinski, and I found it very unfair that he only used parts of my medical information, and only took parts of my testimony from the hearing, to create his denial decision. I honestly don't know how this is okay for him to do, or allowed. It is not surprising to find out he used to work for Social Security, as an attorney, against people filing for disability.

I've never met a judge or public servant as rude as him in my life. The vocational expert listed all the jobs that i was qualified for with the medical conditions that i have. i responded back with; "How many of those jobs am i qualified to perform while taking the medications that i take daily which are lyrica, flexeril, percocet, elavil, TOPOMAX, AND WARFARIN. MY PAIN MANAGEMENT AND ORTHOPEDIC DOCTORS WANT ME TO BE ON DISABILITY BUT, AFTER MY BLOOD CLOTTING PROBLEMS EVENED OUT MY HEMATOLOGIST WROTE IN MY MEDICAL RECORDS, "MAY RESUME NORMAL WORK AND HOME ACTIVITIES. REFER TO OTHER TREATING PHYSICIANS FOR FURTHER RECOMMENDATIONS." THIS DOOR KNOB OF A JOB QUOTES THE HEMATOLOGY REPORT AND SAYS TO ME; "tHIS PERSON IS A DOCTOR, AND SHE SAYS; "YOU CAN RETURN TO WORK!" I TOLD HIM; "MY DENTIST IS CONSIDERED A DOCTOR, AND MY SON'S PEDIATRICIAN IS CONSIDERED A DOCTOR. MY OPTOMETRIST WHO OPERATED ON MY EYE WHICH IS BLIND FROM ACCIDENT, WHO THE STATE SAYS IT ISN'T BLIND IS A DOCTOR, HOWEVER IF I WAS GOING TO HAVE A HEART OR LIVER TRANSPLANT, I WOULDN'T WANT NONE OF THE 3 DOING THE PROCEDURE, AND I DOUBT YOU WOULD EITHER. WHEN I PULLED OUT THE MEDICATIONS AND LAID THEM ON THE TABLE, ALONG WITH THE SIDE EFFECTS AND WARNINGS, AND THEN ASKED THE VOCATIONAL EXPERT WHAT JOBS I COULD PERFORM WHILE TAKING THOSE MEDICATIONS 3 AND SOME 4 TIMES A DAY, SHE SAID THE JOBS AVAILABLE ARE ZERO. MY APPEAL WAS HEARD IN THE MIDDLE OF LAST MARCH. I WAS TOLD I WOULD GET THE RESULTS OF MY APPEAL IN 30-40 DAYS. I'M STILL WAITING AND IT'S THE END OF JULY.

He was an unprofessional jerk. I truly believe he was intoxicated at my hearing. He made the advocate cry and he screamed like a little pig. Was so unorganized..... Refuse to let me have a copy of the proceedings to prove he was drunk. I plan on running him to him someday soon. He refused to let me cross exam any witness. I'm suffering from heart disease which has caused massive depression and anxiety. Over paid piece of crap.... I've paid into as for 30 years yet its being given to illegals that haven't paid a dime.

I've had several hearings before this judge. If you prepare your hearings well he can be very approachable. Submit a prehearing brief at least 3-4 days prior to the hearing. I've found the best approach is to discuss each allegation individually and outline objective findings. This does not have to be long and formal. Simply open noting any major issues (outstanding records, DLI issues, amending onset). Keep your brief simple and to the point. Address any issues - DAA, lack treatment... In closing you can address proposed RFC or GRID argument. If you don't have objective support for an allegation he is not going to give it a lot of weight. He is very favorable to treating source statements and opinions. He will tell you why he has an issue with the claim - address that issue specifically and support your argument with direct citation to the record. Know your record and cite, cite, cite! Be prepared to amend your onset for GRID and/or lack of treatment. He will come right out and ask about listings - do not make a loose listing argument, just move on to step 4 or 5. He will go back and forth with you about the allegations and can be persuaded. If you come in prepared and submit the brief ahead of time your hearing will go much more smoothly and you will give your client an increased likelihood of approval.

This was my second hearing. The judge from my first hearing retired. This judge said out loud that he was inclined to approve my claim between 2010 and 2012. But wanted more evidence that I was still disabled. My lawyer got him the exact information he asked for. My mental health doctor that I have been seeing for nearly seven years reported that I have severe PTSD and severe anxiety / panic attacks. The judge claimed I need to be graded as severe by my doctors. He received that information. He also wanted evidence that I was still physically disabled. My orthopedic surgeon reported his diagnoses that I was 100% disabled. That I was a functional parapatetic. Meaning that while I can move my arms, I have little use. Also that I am at risk of injury if I work, seeing get that I have broken my wrist in 2012 and didn'the know. I got 3rd degree burns and my arm in 2011 and didn'the know again. I'very received numerous stitches do to cutting myself in and around the house and not knowing until I saw blood. I take Valium daily, some times numerous times a day do to my mental health problems. Who will be liable if i hurt myself or somone else at work because of my diabilities as well as being on valium. My doctor will never release me to ever work again. Am i now supposed to take medical advise from the judge? This judge ignored everything. The first vocation expert said that I could not do any jobs. This judge ignored it. This judge cherry picked various words from different statements, put them together and spun a narrative that allowed for a denial. I could have been a Quadrapalegic on a ventilator with severe brain damage and he would have still denied. My medical evidence cover exactly what the law says my limittens need to be to be approved. Actually my medical evidence more than covers all requirments. On Oct 1st I will be turning over all off my files ruling and all paperwork to an I've investigative journalist and a watchdog group here in illinois, as well as in Washington dc. Maybe when their bias and discrimination are splashed on the front page of the newspaper and the 10 pm news this judge will be fully exposed. This has been seven years. I will never get rich on disability. Even if I never win I will make it my mission in life to expose lying manipulative judges like this.

After my wife and I reviewed judge studzinski's ruling further, while preparing a formal complaint as well as a discrimination complaint.....we discovered that this judge fabricated evidence (a statement) that was never in anything, anywhere. Then used that fabricated statement numerous times in his unfavorable ruling. This judge obviously discriminates against everyone to some point. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to see why the average approval in Oakbrook is double his average. It is him. I can'tell wait to expose him to the world. A person like him should not be in a position of authority. The other judges and especially the appeals council should be ashamed of him, as well as themselves for allowing this person to act on people's lives as he does.

To anyone that has filed a review on judge Studzinski that felt the judge messed up their case. Writing a review on here is great to vent and see that others have had the same problems with this judge. However no changes will ever happen with reviews here. Make sure you file complaints against this judge. I will be filing a discrimination complaint against judge Studzinski as well as a Complaint with the Division of Quality of Service. We all need to report this judge. This judges ruling on my case was virtually all fabricated. Filing official complaints is the only way to get his behavior noticed. I am also going to be having an investigative journalist as well as a watchdog group investigate my case. If you'd like you can contact me at my name at the place where mail is hot. Or contact the Illinois watchdog group.org. There are also groups in D.C. that can help.

For the many people who have been abused by the unnecessarily rude and adversarial misconduct of this judge, your formal complaints should be directed to: Sherry D. Thompson, Regional Chief Administrative Law Judge Social Security Administration 200 W. Adams Street, Suite 2901 Chicago, IL 60606 This is the only process that will get any attention. The Division of Quality Service (DOQ) is required to review and respond to all such legitimate complaints. Being unhappy with his decision will not get attention, but his notorious rude and adversarial behavior should get attention because it violates specific SSA rules against adversarial conduct. Statistics are kept to track the number of complaints against each judge. The is the best process to help get this judge removed. Everyone should file complaints. Too many people are abused by this judge.

Unfortunately it takes 5 minutes of research to find out that the ALJ chief Sherry Thompson is being investigated for corruption as well as much other wrong doing. So whoever left the message to contact her about judge Studzinski needs to understand this.......... Pot Kettle. They are both corrupt and there is nothing we can do about it. Nobody cares if the judge is a **** or a complete ***. He should however not be biased. And the fact that he lie's so easily and often should disturb everyone. Hey Lawyers, you are the people in position to file ethics complaints against these judges. People that are truly disabled are being screwed. #disabledanddenied

I had my hearing today, and although I went in very nervous about the judge, he was friendly and professional, nothing scary like all these reviews. He was upset at the incompetence of my lawyer but so was I (although I did not show it or say it). I'm hoping I get a fully favorable decision, even though my lawyer tricked me into changing my onset date :/ I guess I'll find out in a couple months.

Anyone who loses their case will say "doesn't know the law". Yes she does. YOU DONT. Crazy how things like a doctorate degree in law and a bar exam can do that vs a common person who plays on the internet and tells themselves how smart they are since their like minded friends and family agree with them huh? Crazy.................... Or do you mean asking the hypotheticals, because google before you post fool.

Can you explain, without using the word: CORRUPTION, or mentioning crooks, ie Debra Bice, Carolyn Colvin, Sherry Thompson, David Thompson et al., why a 100% Service-Connected DISABLED veteran, who hasn't been gainfully employed since honorable discharge 1987 would be denied ssdi benefits ? Do you think the SSA has more criminals employed than does the VA ? Have you blown the whistle on any of the crooks you see at the SSA ?
