This Judge is an incompetent ditz. She made such major procedural errors during the hearing, the appeals council is remanding her unfavorable decision. I wish SSA would hire more ALJS who are competent and professional! It would save a lot of time and money if there were more competent ALJs.

Thank the good lord above it was Judge Boren that heard my case. I just learned today I was approved. After 28 years in EMS and Firefighter work my spine and joints were shot. I am so thankful that Judge Boren is a fair and compassionate soul for us that have no other choice but to go on disability.

I received an unfavorable decision from judge Sullivan so I will be as objective as I can. She is straightforward, professional and courteous. The hearing was not adversarial and I didn't get the sense that there were any "trick" questions; however, 99% of the questions she asked me was focused on my physical issues instead of my mental health issues. And it is my mental health issues that primarily makes working almost impossible. It is my opinion that if judge Sullivan had a good understanding of how bipolar depression negatively impacted my ability to work, I would have received a favorable decision. So if you file for mental and physical health issues and she only focuses her question on your physical, make sure you address how mental health issues affects you day to day - especially if mental health is your primary disability as it was mine.

This ALJ seems to approve more back in his home state of GA. Had only an 18% approval his first year in CA and 25% second year and yet in his home state he is up to 45%. My thought is he finally learning the job or is he partial to applicants of SSDI in his home state? Did not seem to know the job

This woman is a terrible judge. She made a mockery of my case and took everything out of context to suit her agenda. She ignored important evidence, and was rude and short with me. I have been fighting for 2 years and I finally get my day in court and this is who I get! I'm not giving up, her denial is biased and she ignored crucial evidence. Well karma is real judge Isaac's and it's coming for you.

I just wanted to thank God for allowing me to be in front of a fair and professional judge. I had my hearing in May 2018 and I received my decision in November 2018. I can't say that I wasn't nervous and anxious waiting on the decision but I had faith that she would look at my medical records and realize the pain and other conditions that I suffer from on a daily basis. I want to say that this judge is as fair as they come and I that her for her time and consideration.

I remember Judge Auslander while he served as an immigration judge in Atlanta, GA. He was the finest jurist I've ever had the pleasure to appear before while practicing immigration law for over 30 years . He clearly had a vast knowledge of immigration law. I learned much from him by listening to his views from the bench and the decisions he delivered from the bench. I have missed his wisdom and humanity over the years. Actually, I miss not looking up and seeing him on the bench. I have been thinking about him a lot lately and have been wondering what he'd make with the current climate of animosity toward the immigrant community in Atlanta. I've been wondering what he thinks of Attorney General Sessions current assault on the immigration courts and the independence of the immigration bench. I saw Immigration Judge Dana Marks being interviewed by Ari Melber about Attorney General Session's mandates that attack that independence. Yes, I especially miss Judge Auslander over the past year, even more than I did before.

I disqualified this judge because he is partner with Judge: J. S Childs as they both like the Eighty-one-year-old former Judge David B Daugherty, the former Administrative Law Judge (ALJ) at the Office of Disability Adjudication and Review (ODAR) in Huntington, West Virginia who left on Friday, August 25, 2017 the Kentucky courtroom in handcuffs sentenced to four years in prison for taking more than $600 million in bribes in Social Security fraud cases, as he beginning in 2004, an ALJ assigned to the SSA’s Huntington, W. Va., hearing office, paid an average of approximately $8,000 per month in case and [MAKING FALSE STATEMENTS] as required under Title 18 U.S.C. § 1028A(c)(11) section 208, 811, 1107(b), 1128B(a), or 1632 of the Social Security Act (42 U.S.C. 408, 1011, 1307(b), 1320a–7b (a), and 1383a) (relating to false statements relating to programs under the Act), [5 U.S.C. § 552a(i)(1)], [5 U.S.C. § 552a(i)(2)], Violation of public office Oath, mail fraud.

Judge Hart made it easy for me to talk. I felt as if she felt what I was going through. I'm glad I got her. She did not give me any back pay. But this was okay. Now I can deal with my health. She was fair about what she did. A BIG THANK YOU TO JUDGE HART.

Judge: Suzanne A Littlefield
4/7/2018 4:13:31 PM

Judge Littlefield was very welcoming from the time I walked in. She asked straight to the point questions, and I felt that she really took a look at my records. The VE never said a word. Then she started talking to my attorney saying terms I didn't understand and talking dates. My attorney walked me out side and stated she would find me disabled at my hearing if I changed my onset date. From Sept 2014 to April 2015. I had no problem doing that. My hearing last maybe 10-15 mins. A word of advise is to let your records speak for themself. Don't over exaggerate, because they know when you do.

Nice guy, although not sure how the hearing went for I've never been to one. My hearing lasted about two hours, but half of the hearing a vocational expert was talking and another 30 minutes or so I was out of the room while a doctor was giving their findings.. lawyer said the length of the hearing along with the doctors oath and the vocational expert findings we're all good signs for me... But Im still not sure what to believe. Judge said he may want to have another hearing (forget what it's called) where he'd call in more experts, but also said because I have over 19000 pages of history on me he may not want to because of all the extra time it would take mailing doctors back and forth etc... Not a clue what any of that means.. anyway, had hearing Feb 1st 18 and it's been about a month. Hoping it doesn't take another 2 months to get the results...

I seen this judge on 7/24/17 he was really nice I think he can tell I was nervous and my anxiety started to kick in he was really patient when I was answering my questions and the vocational guy on the phone said a few things I was a little confused but I think I understand what he was saying. I wonder how long it takes him to make his decision it’s starting to make me anxious cause I told him everything and last time in 2015 I got a paper it said I was disabled but that I was denied so that really confuses me it really don’t make sense but I hope that this time they approve me so that it can be done wit already.

Completely Incompetent Judge and System. Not only was my Birth Date incorrect, after fixing it and supplying Documentation...but the decision wasn't even based on what I applied for. I had my hearing in January of 2017. Although I am still waiting on Judge Hart to write up her decision, she ruled in my favor. I have nothing but great things to say. I was very nervous, anxious, embarrassed and depressed about my situation. Judge Hart was very kind and compassionate. She listened to my attorney as well as myself and took the time to really hear us. In no way did I feel rushed. The hard part now is waiting since I am 5 months in to the year with no healthcare or income and many cancelled doctor appointments. Thank you Judge Hart for helping to make this day go a little easier for me and showing me that there are still compassionate people out there.

She was very thorough and concise and never at one point was I confused or did I feel out of place. My son was a nervous wreck about his hearing but the second we walked in the room everything was great. Judge Lamb was the most compassionate and caring legal person I ever met. We thought we were going to lose. We were so lucky to have this Judge there is justice after all.

Judge: Suzanne A Littlefield
10/30/2016 3:48:26 PM

Judge Littlefield had made statements of SSA Juvenile law statutes in reference my sons disability case, and my sons age is 22. When we brought up that the SSA statute should be referenced because my son is now 22, Judge Littlefield did not acknowledge the one that we were bringing up. I can't believe that a twenty minute talk with the SSA doctor would be more credible than years in the Marcus institute in Atlanta, and the full diagnosis from the Emory Autism Center along with notable Dr. Leslie Rubin. She gives me the feeling she may have become routine instead of a case by case Judge like her earlier record indicates.

I'm had my hearing in May 2016, My attorney from Matt Berry & Associates told me before entering the room, that more than likely we would get turned down. She said that he has a bad reputation and upon leaving the room I was happy with the hearing, but she stated that he would be turning me down. She was right, I was turned down, I almost lost my left foot and it's disfigured for the rest of my life, my right hand was disfigured also, I lost the use of my index finger which was all cause by the autoimmune disease that I have. This guy will only grant disability to people who are on death door. I'm filing a complaint against him.

Judge: Sheila Lowther
9/16/2016 12:08:32 PM

I appeared before Judge Lowther and I had a very positive experience. She was kind and attentive. I answered all her questions briefly yet honestly. I was quite impressed with her knowledge of my case, she does her homework before the hearing. I want to express to those who are struggling in this process how important it is to have substantial medical documentation that supports your claim. Get copies of your medical records, go to the doctor frequently, don't stop advocating for yourself!!The burden of proving your disability is on you, it's not just what you say, it's what your evidence can prove. I worked day and night getting every piece of paper I could to prove my claim. I even had notarized statements from caregivers, previous employers, family, friends and most importantly a current letter from my treating physician stating the severity of my illnesses. I worked in conjunction with my attorney (whom had not defended a disability case before). I just didn't stop going to the doctor!!! Medicaid paid for my doctor visits, surgeries, and medications because I had no income. I was very nervous going into the hearing, that's a normal response. I just kept calm, concentrated on what the judge asked me and I was honest. I knew everything I said to her could be corroborated by my medical evidence. Keep your head up and don't stop advocating for yourself!

Paul L. Jenkins, Esq.
Judge: Robin R Palenske
9/4/2016 2:19:17 PM

Judge Palenske has been the recipient of some incredibly false and ridiculous critiques on this board. Firstly, her award rate is in line with the national average, which would itself indicate that she is applying the law faithfully and fairly. As a highly successful SSDI attorney, I have appeared before her many times. She rightly expects lawyers to fully and thoroughly present their cases. She listens more than she talks, and many of her colleagues on the Bench could learn from the thoughtful way in which she conducts her hearings. She is always respectful and courteous to each and every claimant, and always arrives at well reasoned legal conclusions regardless of whether the outcome is an award or a denial. If you have a good lawyer who follows Judge Palenske's specific pre-hearing instructions, and takes the time to carefully develop your testimony in court, this judge will award your case, provided that the medical evidence supports the severity of your allegations. By all standards of judicial fairness, temperament, and preparation, Judge Palenske is a model ALJ.

Judge Lamb stated at my hearing there was no work I could do then turned around afterwards and denied my claim. He looked at opinions of their Drs that have never even saw me over all of my Drs opinions (3 diff Drs). I have numerous issues and take to many meds to list. Some of the info that I received back from him isn't even correct. Now to appeal if I live long enough.

Judge: Laurie A Bedell
5/22/2016 3:13:47 PM

Judge Bedell was compassionate, understanding and made me and my witness feel comfortable talking with her. As many of the previous comments posted here are not favorable to Judge Bedell, it is of my opinion, if they had legal counsel representing them, maybe their representative was not as thorough as they could have been on legitimate claims. My reason for stating this is because Judge Bedell seemed very pleased with the amount of information and how it was presented in the overview of my claim by my representative. I have not been fond of the legal system for quite some time but Judge Bedell gave me hope that there are Judges who care about following the law and the legal guidelines they are given. My experience was very positive and I have heard others state the same. I thank Judge Bedell for her professional and compassionate approach in my case and I thank the transponder for her friendly demeanor and the Vocational Expert for her thoroughness of the job market.

As an SSDI attorney representative, I echo the praise and endorsement of Judge McDonald. In my experience before this Judge, he is thoroughly familiar with the record, focused, and knows all the nuances and key pivotal issues within a claimant's record and smoothly directs the inquiry towards those issues. Throughout the hearing, he is exceptionally courteous, compassionate and treats everyone with the utmost respect and dignity.

3/15/2016 7:02:39 AM

ALJ McGrath went above and beyond recently, and by his efforts, allowed my client her hearing when there had been a serious miscommunication regarding my client's file (it had been sent to another hearing office by mistake, and the hearing cancelled - all without notice to myself or my client). Another ALJ might have shrugged their shoulders and said nothing could be done, so sorry; ALJ McGrath instead tracked the file down, had it sent back to North, and worked the hearing into his already scheduled docket. While we are still awaiting results, we are grateful to have been able to conduct the hearing as we had planned, especially since my client traveled from TN to Athens for the hearing. Thank you Judge McGrath!

She admitted that she did not review my records and she needed time. She was so pleasant but she did not listen to the VE or my doctors. What do you do when you don't qualify for SSA,( productive US citizen who worked since 15) medicaid (and you have a daughter) or food stamps? What are you supposed to do when the system, and the process turns their back on you and drags out the process until you give up or die? How are you supposed to see a doctor when you can't afford "Obama care" and you can't work bc you don't have feeling on your left side of your body? I understand some people don't deserve or have earned assistance! But what about the people who do? What about the people who paid into a system that abandons us? What about us and our children? I waited for my day patiently and at the end of this day I'm crushed! If you have her for a judge please please reschedule or ask for another judge. It's not worth your time or energy to go in front of her.

But when it came to their "medical expert" he went with a diagnosis of one out of four doctors that wanted to say my mental health issues were due to drug use in the last several years! Social security had sent me to that doctor when the first one diagnosed me mentally ill. The system is supposed to try to discredit fakers and dopers. I'm all about that. But when the people in charge of my future don't look me in the eye or can't my instincts raise a flag. The vocational expert didn't come up with any viable positions. So that's in my favor I hope. But it's high time mental health doctors and "experts" go back to school. I attend classes online to become "educated" after breaking my body supporting the "educated" and all I do is translate big words into small ones..... But what do I know? I'm just "below average intelligence" "drug addict" that hasn't touched substances for over a year, or had a drink since February. And they wonder how tragedies could have been subverted? Lol. Cuz the experts don't know real psychology from a hole in the ground.

I truly believe you should be sent to SS doctors if they don't believe your drs. I have cried, and just for the life of me can't figure out why I was turned down. I am now awaiting the appeal council to change the decision and only God can help me there. They say it usually gets denied there but I'm trusting with all my heart. Facts were not presented, my absentee wasn't discussed. Nothing. I was so let down by a system I trusted. I should be hearing from the appeals council anytime. My lawyer is Sheila Campbell and a good person. Judges need to realize someone whose worked since they were 16 and lived their job would not sit at 60 unless they couldn't get around like they use too. I would gladly go to their dr

Judge Toni Shopshire was very nice but she did not take into consideration I cannot lift anymore. My whole life has changed to where even with med I take I run to bathroom all the time. The vocation it's had what I did all wrong. I have about 6 things including anxiety and depression to fight all the time but no one except a 20 minute psychologist checked me out and didn't know me at all. I've suffered depression over my life change and yet to have a huge turn you down when you've worked all your life???? It's crazy. It should have been passed due to the fact I'd miss work alot and lose my job. We've almost lost our home and all over this. Now it's in appeal. I'm 60 just not tight

I went in front of Judge Alexander on February 9th and Im still waiting on a decision almost 8 months later but its understandable due to fact my attorney had to submit more medical records to him. Im not angry because I feel like the judge listened to my case and I have been waiting since 2010 to be approved. I understand things take time and getting angry does not help anything even though it has took this long. I feel like Judge Alexander is a fair Judge and I feel like he listened to my case and just didnt stamp denied on it!

This judge clearly MISSTATED the facts .lied . even when the voc tech said no jobs , why have a voc tech in there . I seen this judge within a year of filing ,then they wait 3 yrs to mail my appeal paperwork to WRONG address then he took what a ER doc said 2 years prior to filing to help him deny me . Bet he wouldn't take a ER doc saying how I cant work as a reason to approve .Ignored my 3 other docs saying I CANT work .. Thanks alot ! is this why some ppl lie and file in another state ?

I had the pleasure of having judge McCully. Hearing was canceled. I was found fully favorable based on medical evidence outside the ss doctors. He stated in the decision he chose to ignore those Dr's and look at the evidence that proved my case. It has taken approximately 1200 days to get there but it turned out great.

Very unfair judge. My claim had errors, which the judge did not catch. I was denied for no reason. I'm so depressed. I need my benefits, but some scammer who doesn't really need assistance, probably got approved in my place. I hate the way this system is set up, to make you give up. This judge couldn't have cared less about me from the start. It's the worst thing I've experienced in my life. It took me over 3 years to get to the hearing stage. If the vocational expert says you can do some job, you're screwed. It doesn't matter if the VE eventually says you can't work. He will find a way to call you uncredible, and deny your claim.

One of the worst judges in this office. Doesn't use vocational experts. Forgets to swear in witnesses. Sits on denials for months at a time. Will find the dumbest reasons to hold the record open in cases. For people that have waited years to have their cases heard, be prepared to wait even longer to hear back from her. Poor doesn't properly describe the job that she does. Taxpayers definitely deserve more.

I think Judge Lamb was as fair as they come, he took time to read my medical records and knew my health would get no better. My health is getting worse and i am very thankful he took the time to read my medical conditions. I wish he also issued the checks, he awared my disability on June 17, 2014 and recived first check fourth Wed. in Sept. I have yet to get my back pay and everytime I call I get a run around from each person i talk too. I wounder if they had to pay interest I would get it any faster. December 17 will be 6 months, I beleve if Judge Lamb was over that as well we would not have to wait as long and keep getting a run around. Sincerly, Stacy Godfrey

As an attorney, I practice before several Social Security hearings offices and numerous judges throughout the Southeast. My experience with Judge McGrath has been consistently positive, and I have found him to be fair-minded and efficient in his handling of cases where I have appeared before him. While he takes a streamlined, no-nonsense approach to hearings, he appears to do this out of a sense of duty to move his cases efficiently and to minimize delay in resolving claims where claimants have already been required to wait months (or even years) without income leading up to finally getting their day in court.

This Judge knows his job. He gets straight to point and does not waste anytime or taxpayers money. He is well prepared. He has an idea of what his decision will be before the hearing. He shows concern about the claimant and takes everything into consideration. He does his job well without hesitation. He can see right through a person if they are full of BS. Great service for the people!

Judge: Steven J Ehlenbeck
4/30/2014 9:58:23 AM

I saw his honor several weeks ago, and Judge Ehlenbeck seemed very nice and concerned about my claim. He asked a lot of questions about my condition. Even though I was not helpful to my own case because I was very goofy during my own hearing, due to my medication, I hope his honor is able to see how the medication I have to take for my heart condition impairs my own judgment and limits my ability to work. My husband was unable to testify in my case, and he would have given better testimony explaining how my condition affects our daily way of living. I know Judge Ehlenbeck has a low approval percentage, but I hope he reads my chart very carefully and not judge me by my testimony alone.

Judge: Dana E McDonald
4/26/2014 9:33:22 PM

As a very successful SSDI attorney, who has been before this judge many times, I want to assure every claimant that Judge McDonald is the consummate professional. He is well-prepared, very fair, and invariably courteous. If the Social Security Administration were smart, they would consider him a model for other ALJs to emulate. He's central casting in every way. Unlike other judges, he never gives the impression that he's already made up his mind. He also never cuts off attorneys or claimants, and does everything possible to put all parties at ease. That said, he rightly expects attorneys to know the file as thoroughly as he does, and to present their best theory of a case, even when the evidence is shaky. To the above poster, the vocational expert would have been asked more than the one question whose answer you liked. I'm guessing your decision was unfavorable because Judge McDonald adopted the Vocational Expert's response to ANOTHER question that assumed LESS than disabling physical and/or mental limitations. With more conservative limitations, there would still be jobs you could theoretically perform. In deciding your case, the judge would have assumed restrictions compatible with work activity (vs. disabling restrictions) because your doctors apparently failed to establish the legal severity of your allegations. This judge is neither pro-claimant nor anti-claimant. He simply applies complex federal regulations with honesty, precision and integrity. That said, quality representation is essential at any SSDI hearing. It's unwise to have poor representation, and absolutely foolish for a claimant to represent him or herself.

Judge: Tamara Turner-Jones
4/10/2014 11:21:29 PM

I feel she is not fair, she makes assumptions and will base your denial on her assumptions. The doctors they send us to are a joke. My sister is dying because they kept denying her and her cancer has returned and spread throughout her body. Frankly speaking I dont know how they sleep at night !!

A prince of a man! Very respectful and very pleasant towards me. I don't know if he is going to approve my case but I feel that he is the first person at SSA who actually listened to what me and my lawyer had to say and I just hope he will approve my case.

Judge: Jeffrey W Kohlman
3/29/2014 3:41:44 AM

If you get this judge be prepared to "negotiate" away most of your back pay. This so-called judge won't let anyone else in the hearing get a word in edgewise. He must love to hear himself talk. He wouldn't let my lawyer finish a sentence before interrupting him. Very rude man. I thought this was supposed to be my hearing, but 80% of the recording is this judge spouting off nonsense. When he is talking it is either irrelevant to my case or is an exercise in circular reasoning where at the end of his diatribe you realize despite his lecture, he doesn't actually say anything of importance except to belittle you for filing for disability. He tries to intimidate you into giving up the back pay so the lawyer doesn't get anything. Even if he approves your case, you will still have to wait another 2 years or more before Medicare kicks in because he makes you give up most or all of the back period of time. If you don't agree to give up the back period of time, he will threaten to deny the whole case. Very unfair and manipulative and seems to get his jollies out of screwing people over simply because he has the authority to do so. But, someday his actions will come back to haunt him. It would be sweet justice if someday he gets severely ill and then his life in put in the hands of a government bully who is likewise full of himself. SSA is a joke and to think that you have to wait nearly 3 years and then have somebody like this decide if you can get your own money back, without interest mind you, is a travesty.

I've worked for a law firm that has done Social Security law for 20+ years and who won't take a claim unless he feels the person is disabled. He's had a 95% record of favorable decisions until Fayetteville ODAR opened up. What a train wreck! I really feel for the claimant's who desperately deserve to be on disability and are denied. They then go to the Appeals Council where they sit for another 12 - 18 months while the claimant's lose everything they've worked for.

Judge: Kevin T Alexander
2/5/2014 1:37:28 AM

I went in front of Mr Alexander, and I thought that I had proved my case, but I was still denied. I was disappointed, and somewhat upset. I had a VA claim open at the same time, that I went in front of the judge, and not that I am saying that I would have been approved, but 3 months after I got denied by the judge, My VA claim started finalizing and my Service Connected Disability had doubled from 30% to 60%, and I was awarded my VA Disability Pension for total disability. I had appealed to the counsel, but was denied a review. I reopened my disability claim, and I was told, that the judges ruling was the farthest back, that my offset date can be set at. In opening my new claim, I found out that the Social Security did not have almost 8 years of my back medical history. It is my fought, I guess, that the history was missing. I knew that I had gone to the VA hospitals and doctors, so I requested my VA records, and I also told Social Security that I went to the VA, but I found out today, that since I had transferred from one VA Hospital to another, I had only received records from my current hospital. My records from 2003 until 2010, that showed my continuing cycle was never even seen by anyone in the Social Security, like I previously said, even if I would have had all my records, I still might not have been approved, but as of right now, I can't go back to then, and Social Security could only base me on what they had, so whether Mr Alexander reads this or not, I wanted to let him know, that I no longer had any ill feelings toward him. If you are a veteran, and you do not already know, unless it has changed, be sure to name every individual VA Clinic or Hospital that you go to, because just requesting your Medical from your current VA hospital, will not give you your whole history.... I found that out the hard way.

Judge: John S Lamb
1/27/2014 3:56:41 PM

This is one of the worst judges I have appeared in front of. He pays no attention to the testimony, is unfamiliar with the details of the record, and has clearly made up his mind before he ever hears the first word from the claimant. Although he comes across as personable, he shows no capacity for actual empathy and evaluates people from a position of distrust rather than trust.

Judge: Laurie A Bedell

I agree with the above! She does not listen or pay attention to the records submitted! She discreditted my own counselor who gave testimony before her. She also added her "personal and preduditial (sp) opinions and thoughts", instead of sticking to law. I am very disappointed in the system!!!!

my first claim was DENIED by this alj, even though he stated in his decision that i did in fact have two severe impairments.. of course the AC kept his ruling intact and my atty filed in federal court. well here it is 6 1/2 yrs from initial filing and 3 yrs after it was denied at appeals council and taken to fdc, my claim was remanded due to ERROR by the alj for NOT giving my treating doctors RFC any weight and going by what the ssa med examiner (which i never saw to begin with)said at some point before my initial denial (which only took a few months to get) hearing was NOT that quick, and also we waited for at least 15-20 minutes before hearing started as the VE was LATE. mind you judge started without the VE, and he finally arrived about 10 minutes before my hearing was over..he heard me answer the last 2 question is all. yet the judge took his opinion that there were thousands of jobs in the national economy within our region that i could do?? i am like the rest of you, i believe he has his mind made up before you go in the door...well, he messed up on this one and now i get a new hearing and hopefully with another judge

Judge: Jeffrey W Kohlman
4/3/2013 10:46:18 AM

Mocked the claimant at the hearing. While claimant was testifying about the intensity of his back pain, which is corroborated by the objective evidence, the judge kept complaining about his own back pain. Throughout the hearing, kept asking the claimant if he was disabled because he also had back pain. A nut.

Judge: Frederick McGrath
3/28/2013 2:26:12 PM

Our office has had numerous hearings with Judge McGrath. He has a reputation for scheduling several hearings at the same time and taking them on a first come/first served basis; will start early if you get there early; does NOT like submission of medical records on the day of the hearing. Generally does not ask for opening; lets rep do most of questioning and just cuts in when he has a question. I think he often has a good idea of how he feels about a case and uses the hearing to see if it changes his mind. His award rate is not out of line, so he's not denying everything that comes through the room. (Claimants need to understand it isn't the number of pages of records you have, but how well the opinions are supported by clinical evidence, diagnositic testing and your own credibility).

Judge: Margaret M Sullivan
3/27/2013 7:47:57 AM

The vocational expert when asked by this judge if there was any job that I would be able to do? The expert stated "NO your honor, there is no job that I know of that he would be able to do". But in my decision letter it states that the expert stated that there were several jobs that I would be able to do. Now why is something that was not stated in court, in my decision letter and their for leading to me being denied or as the letter states "Notice of Decision-Unfavorable"

Judge: Laurie A Bedell
3/11/2013 11:41:50 AM

Very nice, but not very good. It is clear that she does not review medical records properly.

Judge: Frederick McGrath
3/11/2013 7:35:08 AM

Yes he has mind made up before the hearing. He schedules way too many hearings on one given day and they are conducted to quick. Rarely uses a VE. The Jacksonville ODAR is filled with fairly negative ALJs.

Judge: Frederick McGrath
3/7/2013 7:45:47 PM

Judge Frederick McGrath claimed he could not read the RFC filled out by my doctor because "the doctor's handwriting was not completely legible and his signature was indistinguishable." There were approximately 30 cases he ruled on before he saw me the day of my hearing and it seemed like he had already made up his mind on each case before the people even entered the courtroom. He wrote about my mental health in his official ruling even though my claim was entirely a physical case with all of my mental health issues (depression because I am unable to work) being a direct result of my physical disability.

Judge: Frederick McGrath
3/7/2013 6:57:22 PM

I was denied even though I have more than 4,000 pages of medical records, dozens of doctors supporting my claim and submitting written statements, and the court-appointed vocational expert testified that there was not a job I was suitable to do. Mcgrath ruled against this suggestion and said I could do a job that did not require standing, sitting, working with my hands, concentration, memory, interaction with people, and would allow me to lie down for extended periods of time each hour. I also require a caretaker (who is writing this message as I am unable to do so) on a fulltime basis to feed, cloth, bathe, drive, make appointments and manage my dr. schedule, clean, cook, and take care of basically all of my needs/activities of daily living. He made the decision in less than 5 minutes and asked me less than 10 quick questions. His decision was overturned on appeal and has been sent back to be heard in court for a second time. I first applied for disability in 1999 and have spent the last 6 years appealing his ruling. I am going back to court in the next 6 months or so and will let you know who I get and the judgement.

Judge: John A Thawley
3/4/2013 10:24:45 PM

Judge Thawley seems friendly but is the most nasty white devil I had evers Know. This heathen judge did his very best to provoke me to angry. The question he asked was smart questions, his ***** Melisa Stewart laugh at all of his negative questions adress to me.Then the devil used two doctors advice i had never seen before. Mr. Devil went back 10 years on my first injury to take my doctors advice, which is totally stupid. He honesty stated in his decision he didn't believe my doctors because both was African American, where in the world did this heathen come from. Judge heathen read all my notes which are medical evidience that are in my favor and he twisted the truth. My stundent loans are discharge and the same note the heathen have so does the United States of education. Therefore the US government verify I have a disability issue but not the Judge. If I could sue this Judge for not understanding his job i would.

2/20/2013 8:14:17 AM

This judge is cold-hearted and has no empathy for mental illness claimants. He not only called three psychiatrist and a social security psychologist, two primary doctors liars but me as well. His problem is since he can't see the illness physically then you can work. I believe he wants me to go out in the workplace and have one of my mental breakdowns whereby I hurt someone or vice-versa for him to see that a person that suffers with bipolar I & II are very moody people who can't always control themselves. I also suffer with manic depression, PSTD, social anxiety, anxiety, claustophic, panic attacks, OCD, high blood pressure, asthma, bronchitis, heart disease, etc. I am a 50 year old black female who has worked 30 years of her life always giving and caring for others. I have attempted suicide twice because I am my wits end. It took almost 4 years for this unfair system to tell me no I don't qualify for sdi in which I paid into the system. I guess, I will have to prove to this ### and the rest of them that I refuse to let others come here and live off of me when they never worked a day in this country.

I got denied by this ALJ and she was very nice and listened very carefully. I have Fibromyalgia along with other things. In my denial letter she actually accused me of lying. I don't know what I lied about I was very nervous and I can't help that I am that way. I just told the truth and it really upsets me to be called a lair. I have never lied about my condition, no one but myself know how I feel unless they have walked in my shoes. Not even the doctors. I know they see all walks of life with everyone they see on a daily basis. And yes I would say at least 75% do lie. If I have to lie to get something, then I will do without but I have worked most of my adult life, paid in to ss and they tell me I am not disabled? I will not stoop to the level that some do.

Judge: Robin R Palenske
2/12/2013 11:45:21 AM

Judge Palenske is horrendously unfair. She shot us down on a very solid case, but didn't just deny it. She sat on it for over six months before issuing the denial. Absolutely unacceptable.

Judge: John A Thawley
2/11/2013 9:37:50 PM

Judge Thawley seems friendly enough but after he issued an opinion that said I was disabled he then stated that the claim was denied. It made no sense and I truly have been disabled. Now I have to worry about homelessness. But since I am a White and American I should expect this punishment. Admin.

Judge: Karen Wiedemann

Very professional. Wish more of the ALJs I see when representing clients were like her--businesslike, knowledgeable, courteous and friendly in a professional way. She made sure the client knew what was going on, made him the focal point of the whole process. Whether she rules in our favor or not, I believe her decision will be honest and that she made certain to get all the information necessary during the hearing.

Judge Hart is very professional and knowledgeable. She has no political agenda and decides each case on its own merits.

I've found Judge Allen to be smart, fair and patient.

Judge: John S Lamb
11/29/2012 10:53:59 PM

I had Judge Lamb in 2009 and he was more than fair with me...Done an On the Record review and apologized for me ever having to wait....Never held the hearing because he said it was clearly unnecessary based on the file...

Judge: Frederick R Waitsman
11/13/2012 6:57:36 AM

What a blessing this man was to myself and my family. After 5 years of fighting for benefits, Judge Waitsman approved me. He was kind and considerate and could see that my pain is real. We've lost so much since the onset of my illness to have someone in his position see the emotional toll this has taken was very humbling. Thank you Just Waitsman for all that you have done.

Judge: Richard P McCully
10/11/2012 11:56:44 AM

He has a knack for going straight to the heart of the matter. He is the only ALJ I have ever had to call me prior to a hearing, looking for evidence so he could pay on the record and avoid conducting a hearing. I really appreciate his willingness to use a Medical Expert in hearings as well. Often, that can make a huge difference in the claim.

This Judge Allen is a liar and a cheat!! He is extremely dishonest. His appointment should be reconsidered.

9/15/2012 11:05:30 PM

Bad Judge!!

Judge: Robin R Palenske
9/12/2012 4:22:13 PM

Her conservative personality should have nothing to do with how she decides claims. She is to appy the rule of law and to take a fresh look at each individual claim.

Judge: Calvin Washington
9/7/2012 10:55:48 AM

Judge Washington has that rare capacity to discern the human heart. He is compassionate, but not a bleeding heart. He tolerates no BS. I respect him greatly.

Judge: Robin R Palenske
9/7/2012 10:30:04 AM

Space Cadet. Which Judge Palenske will show on a given day? On bad days, she has sworn in witnesses more than once. Asks very few questions in general. While I tend to share her conservative philosophy, she is not an easy judge.

Judge: Frederick McGrath
9/7/2012 10:25:39 AM

What a hoot! Seems to have his mind made up by the time we sit down. Holds 6 minute hearings. Gives great weight to RFCs. Somewhat of a "Nero" approach, either thumbs up or thumbs down, without excessive narrative. Does not like substance use or middle aged women with mental health issues.

Judge: O. Lisa Dabreu
9/7/2012 10:13:21 AM

Fair, but not a pushover. Evidence must be in file. Often does not use VEs, and when she does, she seems to have difficulty constructing hypotheticals. Uses non-standard adjectives in hypotheticals.

Judge: Todd S Colarusso
9/7/2012 10:10:09 AM

Fair and transparent. Nothing "tricky" about him.

Judge: Larry A Auerbach

Judge: Laurie A Bedell

Judge: McArthur Allen

God will judge the wicked judge by Jesus. Judge Mcarthur Allen needs to accept Jesus Christ into his life or else he will finally get what he deserves.

Judge: Verley J Spivey

Judge: Sheila Lowther
8/4/2012 10:53:58 AM

I am not sure if this was the judge that I got to see. Even though I have not received a decision as of yet I must say that the judge was nice. She smiled & let me know straight up that hey who needs to be here is not here so I will have to do something else. If this can be paid out, I will. Bottom line to that. So now I sit here in pain waiting. I have been diagnosed with cancer which has spread to my lungs, chronic muscle spasms, bone pain & type 2 diabetes (uncontrolled). Most days with medication I am a zombie or sleep. Without the medication I am in pain. My doctor wants to increase my Percocet to 2 at one time in hopes that would relieve the pain. Now tell me, how will I go to work sleep? Come on now

8/1/2012 10:13:47 AM

although judge edison wasnt my judge I understand your frustration my hearing was june 20th and I havent recieved a decision letter in the mail yet. My conditions is left leg ampuation, psoriatic arthritis, and post tramatic stress syndrome. now if that doesnt qualify as disabled after i worked many years in the workforce then what would? I often think the same thing you guys do. what does it take to get approved roll in there on a hospital bed or a wheelchair. however my judge was extremely nice and seemed interested in my case but the low approval rates they have speak for themselves

7/30/2012 4:53:14 PM

This ALJ barely even looked at me during my hearing (June 2012) and never reviewed any medical findings after July 2011, which confirm my diagnosis. Also he basically said I was a liar and therefore denied me any disability benifits at all. I am on 19 prescribed medications, I can barely function while taken them, they have impaired my thinking skills. I also have hyper somnia, means I sleep for hours at any given time of day, but somehow that evidence was not in his report. If I was pushed in to the hearing in a wheel chair with drool hanging from my mouth, maybe he would believe me. But since I am an upbeat person ( to hide all the crap on the inside)he sees me as functional. I have good days and I have bad days , some days I have no pain and other days all I have is pain. I'm a mixed bag-who in their right mind would hire a person like myself? I can't sit or stand for too long, i can only do minimal light non-thinkinh kind of work, I will fall asleep on the job, I will forget the task I've been given and wander the office. I would get fired within a week, that or get that special baseball helmet for my head. this man infuriates me

Judge: O. Lisa Dabreu
7/23/2012 10:09:14 AM

She is a fair judge. Her hypotheticals will mirror hard evidence in the file, so get you file squared away prior to the hearing.

Judge: Charles E Auslander
7/17/2012 3:57:38 PM

I call his clerk and theey would call my lawyer office and state that I was calling to much and would nor give any information and tell me to call back in two weeks and we would go thru every month

No.... This Judge don't support Veterans with PTSD

Judge: McArthur Allen
6/8/2012 1:15:06 PM

Apparently this ALJ is not willing to support veterans with PTSD. Client has over 650 pages of VA records supporting his severe impairment; this ALJ did not mention them in his decision.
