After reading some of the comments on here,it's difficult to believe that this is the same judge that I had. She was very friendly, and handled my case with care and speed.i can't say enough good things about her.shes my angel.

I thought he was fair and impartial. I received my decision letter today, denied! How can I have a hearing where ALL expert witnesses that were countering my claim come out and say I can't work during the hearing, only to be denied for the reasons they originally base their opinions on and then countered themselves?

Sad Applicant
Judge: Gladys Whitfield

Hearing held in Nov 2019. Judge shocked me. Very rude. Cut my attorney short. Disregarded info from 3 doctors we submitted. Listened only to SS docs. Disregarded my age, my true ability to work full-time and how likely I am to be able to find and keep a job. Quit work 3 years ago because of medical matters. Almost 3 years later I get denied by this judge. Something definitely not right here. Hope she can sleep well at night. Sad. Very sad. Why pay for SS benefits 45 years.

This judge wasn't prepared for my case at all. I was badgered for an hour and a half, and after waiting over 90 days for a decision. I was denied. The denial letter was very back and forth and my 14 year old son picked out all of the things that were in my favor, then they weren't. If you can get a different judge, do so immediately

It is amazing that a person who has worked for over 37 years has to beg for money in a program that we both put into for decades. It is one thing to deny her claim, but to call her a liar or a dead-beat and then use medical terminology and a book as justification is sad. Maybe this Occupational expert should perform nursing procedures in a special care unit before passing judgment. I am sure if she had to stand on her feet for 12 hours and then take care of 4 kids at home for decades this would cause more than mild pain. To tell a 61 year old woman that she can go back to school to retrain for only 700 actual jobs across the country is laughable and sad. Maybe it is time to stop anyone from getting Social Security before the age of 65. That way taxpayers would not have to pay someone to make a phone call and read a book to find out the stress level and job requirements. They can now get a real job in the private sector and not at taxpayer expense. It is amazing that you trashed my wife who has serious health problems while last year you had a 76% approval rating. This year, as of June, 2019 down to 51%. The number of young people in your waiting room was comical since they appeared normal. This is why disability claims should be financed separately from our Social Security.

Judge: Kevin Walker
6/12/2019 5:49:20 PM

Disability is determine solely on my medical records. Judge Walker is not a Medical Profession as I was told by my attorney. So we were very shock and disappointed in the denial of my social security disability, after 3 long years of process. If he actually understood of all my medical conditions, I would have definitely have been approved. I read some of the facts he used to conclude denial, it's absolutely ridiculous. Only fact I could tell all of you is that my COMPETENT MEDICAL PHYSICIANS treats me regular basis. I don't think they sees me and treat me for no reason. I look normal outside, but It shouldn't affect the coutcome of his decision. I also maintain/grooming myself well as a part of medical treatment. I paid taxes and I am not asking for a hand out. I felt the denial was prejudice, discriminating and injustice. Also I don't recall him giving me any chance to speak regarding my case. Enough Said. I give him 1 star for explaining the process clearly and calmly.

Incredibly thorough with his questions for claimant. Judge Roberson was incredibly respectful and kind to the claimant, while still maintaining the highest degree of professionalism. This made the hearing a pleasant experiences for the claimant. I wish more judges had the judicial temperment of Judge Roberson.

He was very nice, listened to everything I had to say. He didn’t seem to have any hateful words or comments, was very pleasant. It helped calm my anxiety a lot about the hearing. He wanted to make sure he had every single piece of evidence before he made a decision. Which was very fair and nice. I Haven’t gotten a decision yet, but I felt very good about the hearing. Let’s hope I’m right!

Met with Judge Teresa Kroenecke on Jan 4th 2018...she seemed to be very fair with all of the questions she had asked me...she actually laughed at my attorney because he had no questions (how embarrassed I was) then my attorney wasn't prepared in the least another strike against me. I just hope the outcome is fair and for once someone understands what it is like to be in pain. Tune in for result

Judge: Stephen E Davis
2/11/2017 12:12:28 PM

If you are unlucky enough to be assigned to this Judge, you should make immediate plans for appeal when he denies your claim. I suggest getting a attorney who specializes in disability cases to file the appeal paperwork. If you are aged 42 or younger I swear he will deny you on this basis alone! I am so scared of the power this ego maniacal "judge" wields that I cannot give you any empirical data on my case, for fear he will remember me and flag my file somehow. You have been warned.

Middle-aged Recipient
Judge: Mark C Ziercher
8/25/2016 8:20:41 AM

Judge Ziercher is very intimidating and his record should frighten you. I had to have two hearings with him, but in the second he approved me. I'm middle-aged and didn't at the time have very clear-cut diagnoses. But this man does his due diligence and honestly, you want this. It was because he is so thorough that I was approved. My advice to all: 1) HIRE A LAWYER. This is your life and there's no price on this. I paid the max to my lawyer, $6000. Could I have used this money? Of course. But you do not want to go into any of these hearings without a lawyer. They file documents that you and I cannot write ourselves. Plus, you're proving how serious you are to your judge about your case. And 2) BE COMPLIANT, with your lawyer and your doctors. Don't doctor jump if you can help it. Finally, answer the judge clearly and HONESTLY. You may not know it when he's questioning you, but most of the time he knows the answers already. He's testing your honesty. And judging you...that's his job. But you can get through it. Good luck to all.

Been looking forward to a disability hearing since June, 2014... Been looking forward to Seeing You since May, 2016. Notified in May, 2016 of August 9, 2016 Hearing with You. Lawyer, Scott Lewis, hired in January , 2015, CANCELLED HIS HELP/APPEARANCE on July 11, 2016, less than 30 days until hearing. I have been cheated/Punked out of years of exepected legal help at Zero Hour!! I have been forced to postpone my long-awaited 9-9-16 hearing for a months later date due to poor legal representation. I pray for your help in my future hearing date, and I pray you help others in my difficult situation by removing Scott Lewis as attorney and not penalizing clients for their ignorance in hiring Scott Lewis as their Disability Attorney. He is, Unfortunately, an irresponsible attorney and no fault of the uneducated clients....

Terrible, horrible, AWFUL judge. Knows all the tricks to get away with denying good claims and have his decisions upheld by the Appeals Council, BUT I have won a remand on every single case I have ever appealed at the district court level where he was the judge. If your claimant is denied by Ziercher, expect to have an appealable issue for the district court and make sure you appeal (or refer the case out if you don't do appeals) so that his name is known by the upper levels of SSA as a judge that costs the government a lot of money in EAJA fees. And somebody please tell him that he can't pull off a bow tie.

Judge: Monica LaPolt
6/16/2015 1:50:02 PM

This judge is a joke, and I haven't even been in front of her yet. A "Peggy" in her office just called and told me that I had to come downtown, taking a day unpaid off work, bring my daughter (who has Down Syndrome) to show them that my daughter is disabled. As if the doctors letter showing her as having Down Syndrome wasn't enough! What does this judge think? She lost her extra chromosome since we filed the paperwork? Not only that but my wife has to take an unpaid day off work as well because someone needs to be there to take care of our daughter during the remainder of the session. All of this after 15 months of waiting for this judge to hear the appeal, and cancelling once, within 7 days of the initial appointment. It's no wonder people hate the government so much, if all government employees are as incompetent as this I now know why.

had a hearing with this march and waited till june to get a decision from him.he was so far off base I could not believe what he wrote . he said I was in one place when in fact I had my hearing over the phone and I was at home .when the hearing was going on things were stated with proof from social securitys own independent doctors . he then wrote that their own doctors were unreliable . and with other fact 1 doctor is treating me for rheumatoid arthritis and has been for over 2 and a half years. he stats that the doctor stats that I don't have rheumatoid arthritis then what have I been taking for the last couple of years ? his decision is so full of contradictions . In 1 paragraph he stats favorable then In another he stats that I don't have or the doctor or therapist is unreliable I don't think he knows what he is doing

Judge Whitaker was very interested in me during my hearing. Let me start out by saying she has not ruled in my case, but I was impressed with her ability to show some compassion while remaining very professional throughout the entire hearing. Trully Disabled
Judge: Mark C Ziercher
11/9/2014 6:10:59 PM

I saw this Judge this past week and was approved during the hearing. I think this Judge is very just and fair. He weighed the facts, the diagnosis and the doctor's recommendations as far as what disability I met. I had been denied by another Judge several years before, so this had been a long battle to get benefits! Me and my lawyer perhaps made mistakes with the previous Judge-possibly by not having the right tests and diagnosis from my doctors. The previous Judge was, however, very condescending, doubted my credibility and was very unfriendly! Judge Ziercher was fair, respectful, nice and no non-sense in his approach. He is just that, a Judge, and he believed in me and the doctors and data. In my opinion, if you are truly disabled, this is the Judge to have. If you are a faker-like so many-you had better not even show up! Good luck to those who are truly disabled!

He is a fairly laid back and personable ALJ. Don't always agree with his decisions, but he does not have an agenda and tries to do the right thing. You will get a fair hearing before him.

Judge: Albert J Velasquez
10/2/2014 7:17:10 AM

Can occasionally be rude to claimants, but over the years has evolved into one of the better and more fair ALJs. Will give bench decisions.

Judge: Monica LaPolt
10/2/2014 7:12:41 AM

She runs a fair hearing but is severe in her rulings with a low approval rate. Not an ALJ you necessarily want to be in front of with anything but a very good case.

Judge: Joan Ho
10/2/2014 6:57:21 AM

She conducts her hearings in a very unfair manner. She will spend an hour grilling the client and then tell his attorney, who has just started his/her examination, that there is a shortage of time. Her mind is made up prior to the first word of testimony, and this is reflected in her attitude and questioning. Judges decisions are slanted with the negative highlighted and the positive ignored. This is a an ALJ to avoid.

Judge: John H Metz
9/10/2014 12:59:06 PM

Most judges are respectful of people appearing before them even if they know they are going to deny the claim. They recognize that the claimant is struggling with something that is at least severe enough that they feel it is disabling, and that whether it is or not, they are going through a tough time. NOT JUDGE METZ. At best, he isn't hateful toward winning claimants; he is a monster toward those he plans to deny, and he does it with a huge smile on his face, like he truly enjoys brow-beating these people. I'm not the bleeding heart attorney type - I know when my clients have mediocre cases - Metz definitely denies legitimate claims more often and in the face of stronger evidence than most judges. I'm surprised to see his grant rate - I would expect it to be lower (even though I'm above it with him). I suspect he is granting some cases that should never make it through - otherwise, his grant rate should be about 10% lower. Word around the office is that he doesn't read prehearing briefs so don't bother. I submit them anyway just in case, but can say that it's very unusual to hear him talk about the case as though he's read it. Overall, the Indy ODAR office was definitely a better place without him.

Judge: T. Whitaker
6/30/2014 12:14:26 PM

I have worked indirectly with ALJ Whitaker on numerous occasions. I have had many clients go in front of her for hearings and she is probably one of the more fair ALJs within Social Security. I worked with her when I was still with a practice in Indiana and I look forward to working with her more in the future upon her transfer to Ft. Myers. She is unbiased in her opinions and works off evidence, not off assumptions. Please notice when reviewing her that her numbers are one of the few ALJs whose numbers have stayed relatively consistent over time.

After having a hearing with this ALJ which doesn't impress me that she is even considered a judge! After reading reviews on this gal, how is she still a so called "Judge?" She lied right to my face under oath at my hearing! Does she NOT know that is perjury? This gal needs to lose her title, and her job with her dishonest behavior! I was lied to by several in this office and nobody knows what they are doing! I've taken my complaint higher to the Indiana Bar, I would be happy to see this gal lose her job and legal license! Unreal!! Why is a "judge" allowed to lie??? I shall keep you posted that whole office needs to be investigated and further more-jobless!! Give the jobs to honest Americans that wl do the job!! the worst judge anybody could ever have and a lying judge at that, very unhelpful judge, very well known to hold grudges from other alj's decisions didnt even look at the real problem this judge is in an awful judge and should not be involved in the social security she has no heart no sympathy and no care for the claimants feelings or disabilities she is only out to care for herself! the worst judge anybody could have!

Judge: David L Welch
4/21/2014 10:07:36 PM

I had my court date January 22nd. Judge Welch was very patient and listened patiently and gave me plenty of time as I was confused as to some of the opinions/comments of the Dr. they used to review my file. I did have to put my case on hold for an additional test which was received by the ODAR on Feb 25th but the case is still on hold waiting for the judges decision. I'm just wondering how long it generally takes as it has been several weeks. My attorney's office hasn't returned calls throughout the process and still isn't so I'm worried the file didn't make its way back to the judge. Not unlike many I'm sure, I'm very close to being homeless and I am very worried and not sure if there is something else I should be doing. If anyone has had a similar experience any words of wisdom or advise regarding your own case would be greatly appreciated. Thanks so much.

Who is the ME? Meridian Diagnostic, Agneineri? If so The Social Security Administration needs to look into why he is using the same ME over and over that is an ethical problem and conflict of interest. Nice that Social Security uses this man for their diagnostics.

Judge: Monica LaPolt
4/6/2014 5:36:05 AM

She dismissed my doctors recommendations and decided to think she was my doctors. Denied by her with untrue things in denial letter. I really think she didn't read my file right as she stated as she said I was still doing some hobbies which it clearly stated I have not done them in years. Anyway federal appeal ruled she was wrong so that tells you right there she doesn't do her job right and should find another job. If denied by her take it to federal and you will win.

This judge is a joke! She threw out or had a negative response to everything in my file. I couldn't believe the untrue or negative responses in my denial letter. Someone isn't doing their job properly. Threw out both of my doctors responses, said I was a liar, my daughter and sister. I am very sick have been for a long time now and no one will help me. I am about to loose my house and anything I have. I have worked my entire life very hard and to be treated like this is a insult. This judge needs replaced. They need to take in to account their responses. I would be interested in knowing how many suicides occur from judges and doctors that seem like their only goal is to kick you when your down. Be a professional like you are supposed to be!!!! I am very angry how good people are treated from judges and doctors, people we are suppose to respect.

Judge: James R Norris
3/8/2014 7:33:10 AM

Judge Norris is unprofessional. Agree with comments about the ME. When crossing the ME, ALJ gets irritated with the attorney if they try to make the ME explain or support his reasoning at all. Further, the ME makes inappropriate credibility remarks so be ready for them. Luckily, if questioned, the ME is so ridiculous it will be an easy appeal. ALJ wants to hear nothing from the claimant so he will get angry if you try to rightfully try to develop case via questioning claimant on limitations and ADLs.

I thought she was very nice and understanding. She was very knowlegable about my file and all the evidence included. I have not yet receieved a decision, but felt she was fair during the hearing.

ALJ Whitaker runs a fair hearing. She certainly is not a "giveaway" ALJ. Makes a decision based on the medical evidence and is flexible and willing to change her mind if the evidence is there. Does not appear to have an agenda as some ALJs do.

Very nice judge polite to claimant and atty she generally uses ME and VE and seems to be pretty favorable.

Very Nice judge he asks almost all questions and his hearings are super short. Get there early.

Judge: John H Metz
3/18/2013 2:59:01 PM

Judge Metz does the questioning----if it is a crappy case, he sure lets you know. Sounds like he is nice enough, kind of depends on the case as to how he acts.

Judge: Thomas L Wang

Really new judge but very very nice he asks most of all the questions will allow the attorney to fill in the gaps pretty short hearings he does use at least in my case VE and ME and did get pretty detailed in his questions to the claimant about negatives of case alcohol smoking and any and all drug use

Judge: T. Whitaker
3/18/2013 2:53:14 PM

Cant have hearings with any other judge the same day as this judge or you will get admonished by Whitaker.

Judge: Monica LaPolt
3/18/2013 2:45:24 PM

Her numbers say it, 25% you are going in just to make a record to appeal. She will interrupt you often. She pulls a lot of negatives out of the file so be prepared for drug/alochol and yes prison time even though it is outside the time frame of an AOD or PFD. She will also have the VE classify work as PRW although it doesnt fit SS definitions of PRW. If your client worked doing anything at all for any length of time it is PRW.

She is the new CJ in Indy. VERY NICE!!! But she specifically asked me to let the other attorneys know that she expects you and the claimant to be at hearing and ready to go 30 minutes prior to the hearing time. The notice says that, and she EXPECTS that! She asks most questions, then turns it over to attorney. AND she told me she does not want me to get testimony regarding what doctors have told them, or what she could read in the medical evidence.

Judge: Monica LaPolt

nice judge, she knows the file, usually will let you cover sections on limitations and adl's. Moves quickly through the hearing.

Judge: James R Norris
3/7/2013 4:53:40 AM

This judge is out of his mind!! he has an ME he ALWAYS uses who ALWAYS tells him what he wants to hear - that your claimant has no disabilities whatsoever. The judge himself is a bully and will browbeat you after each question as you try to question his medical experts. He does not appear to listen to claimant testimony at all and doesn't appear to care period what the claimant has to say. He is there to bully reps and deny claims. He should seek other type of employment.

I work DIRECTLY with Judge Whitaker on a daily basis. She is a BIG supporter of 'due process' for the Claimant. She is always focus on the Claimant and their right to that 'due process'. In her daily decisions she is always ready to take a 'hard right' instead of an 'easy left'. A unfavorable decision does not equate to a wrong decision. There is a human being under that robe. And from my position I have seen her humanity. From a Claimants position, they love her on a favorable decision and denounce her on an unfavorable decision. THAT in and of its self is inhumane to pin on such a Professional with such a responsibility to the public.

former atty for claimants now an intense, smart, egotistical, opinionated, biased, but very well prepared ALJ known to hold grudges. we had a claimant who had been denied by another ALJ but had since gotten worse and had new severe impairments (cervical DDD, lumbar DDD, depression) which we documented with 2 years worth of treatment and tests (MRIs, etc). At hearing and in decision denying claim, ALJ Stam ignored the new problems and acted like claimant made it up. ALJ interruppted questioning by me saying she had already covered that topic, but she had not really. [I was asking specific Qs about Claimant's trouble using her hands]Then stopped my Qs of VE on same topic. AC upheld her denial withou comment.

Very nice, very helpful, used a vocational expert half the time, but she is old school. Ask some questions but not in order, and does not ask all, you have to be on your toes.

I had Judge LaPolt as my disability judge and thought that she ignored my medical records and letters from employers about my disabilities.I am a diabetic and have denegenitive disc disease the lower 3 discs in my back are black on xrays and MRI's.She ignored these findings in all of my evidence presented to her.Her letter to me in my denial letter were very upsetting and I have lost my house and wife for her unprofessionable findings.I hope she gets into another type of law before she ruins more lives like mine.

Head injury,;this judge puts "little weight" in treating doctors,19 months of treatment, speech therapy, headaches, memory loss, confusion, anger issues.his recomendations? no contact with co-workers,no contact with supervisors, no machinery or chemicals. No ladders or heights.DENIED.What is that job anyway? He put "great weight" in the 2 doctors who never talked or looked at my dad not sure if this so-called "judge" really looks at the facts. If your really hurt and you go in front of him good luck and godbless, this man has no compassion, and your treating doctors will carry "LITTLE WEIGHT.I do not know how this man sleeps at night.

I think this judge wants to go down in History as having the most denials. His record speaks volumes. I wish I had any other judge. In the denial letter of 26 pages he stated things that were not true. He has no empathy or compassion. I feel sorry for anyone who is assigned this man.

I went before Judge Jordan, and I found him to be very human and he understood my nervous ramblings, and he seemed to understand the pain I was in, I haven't heard one way or the other about my case, I just pray that I do hear something soon. It is very hard not knowing if I will be able to get the help I need, or If I will be just another homeless individual living under a bridge, because Ive lost the ability to use my arms and legs effectively, and no one will hire me. I pray that I can come back on here and have a positive outcome to my case, so far Judge Jordan gets the highest mark for his ability to empathize with my life situation. I will be back to confirm his 5 star rating or to change it. Staying hopeful, you do the same.

This Judge is cruel and inhumane. Making someone who has a lot of health issues, physically, mentally and emotionally wait 6 months from a hearing date for an unfavorable decision. What took you so long? You may have won the first round, but this fight for what is due to me, is far from over. I hope you sleep well tonight. Shame, Shame on you!

This man could easily be compared to Hitler. I listened to him laugh about people he denied disability and talk about how FAT and stupid they are. Fair and balanced - never. Oh well, seems to be the USA system. They find people like this to hear these cases, and then the poor suffer while the rich keep getting richer. The time is coming to an end....and this will no longer happen.
