My judge was Nancy L Brock she seemed very fair and was a no nonsense judge who asked a ton of questions. Fact.... if you have the medical records necessary to prove your disability fully. Fact ...if you tell the truth about everything, and don't think that your smarter then the judge i grantee you'll win your case.

Judge: Jerry Lovitt
1/1/2020 11:24:21 PM

Jerry Lovitt is an arrogant douche, I also had pages on pages of statements and facts from multiple doctors and specialists saying flat out NO HE CANNOT WORK, but he still denied me and acted like I bought my can at Walmart for effect, I even had 2 separate prescriptions for my cane.

Judge: Michelle D Cavadi

It just seems like to me this judge was determined to deny my disability from the very get go. She had no empathy for me and my condition, and what I have been going through the last past two years leading up to my hearing none whatsoever. She in her unjust decision to deny my disability seemed to go full force to twist all of my statements around against me, and to undercut my disability status and just plain and simple didn't care about me none whatsoever. I hope I never get her as a ALJ over any of my future cases ever again. That's if I have to end up re-filing my whole case all over again.

Over 1000 pages of medical records and having several listed disabilities with multiple doctor physical assessment forms stating unable to work. I also am in cancer recovery. DENIED. I don't under stand how these people come up with there decisions or what there looking for. They must flip a coin. nice enough judge, but his skills as a judge are definitely in question.

Had my hearing in front of Judge Evans 1/29/19, and have not received a decision as of 8/11/19. Why can't she make a decision either way ? Hearing went in my favor according to my attorney, and the occupational expert saying there were no jobs out there that I was able to do. I have not been able to work since September 2016. How am I supposed to survive ?

How can you still have a job when you are sleeping during the hearing? i know if no jobs that will let you sleep when you have people depending on you to do your job. you are PLAYING with not just my life but every person that comes in your court. if you can not do your job STEP DOWN

This lady didn’t give me a chance, she would not allow me to bring my wife in to speak on my behalf. After waiting over a year she still denied my claim. I’m an American fighting for what I earned , but an immigrant could come a get ssi without ever paying into social security.

Great judge and very respectful! He was friendly, attentive, and had a very caring nature. He never interrupted me and looked at all of the facts. Very professional. It took me 3 years to get to this point and I waited almost 6 months for a decision but it was Fully Favorable and I'm grateful. Thank you Judge Johnson!

I have been waiting on my ALJ hearing decision for 90 days now. My decision is sitting unassigned with the writer. This is ridiculous to have to wait this long. The process is broken.

Judge: Daniel J Stein

Just hit 90 days after my hearing with Judge Stein and still haven't heard anything. Currently it is in unassigned decision writing. This process is painfully slow and is a broken system. People's lives are at stake and no one cares.

I personally have nothing bad to say about this judge. My only thing is why has it been going on 4 months next month to get a decision after my disability hearing. I honestly didn't think it would take this long. It took 3 years to get a hearing and I'm still waiting. I guess time will tell. Good luck to everyone who deserves it.

To the honorable Judge Frederick Johnson , I appeared before you on June 28th 2017 at 11am . You judged my case as fully favorable , for which I thank you . I have a prognosis from doctor as it stands now of 4 to 11 months to live . Your recommendation for a representative payee will take months off the time I have left . I'm not clear why you arrived at this decision , seeing as I'm medically disabled and not mentally disabled . I have been here at the Arthur Cassell transitional house for veterans for aprox. 10 months where we are screened weekly for any type of substance abuse. I ask that you may reconsider ,as I must be about the business of tending to finale expenses and saying good-bye to relatives and friends across our great country .

This is my LIFELONG were talking about and it is still on hold. No medical care. I'm drowning and am about to give up completely. I was awarded disability in 2008 but turned it down to go back to work. I was reinjured with basically the same injuries even worse on the other side. The judge seemed fair and listened to my case and I have great respect for her. My appeal hearing was February 2nd and I haven't heard a word. I've seenever plenty of other cases already decided that were heard after mine. Please HELP

My hearing was held on 2/6/17. I found ALJ N Graham to be very professional, knowlagable, understanding and expressed empathy. He read and reviewed my case file in it's entirety. He issued a fully favorable decision on April 10, 2017. I think he fairly weighed all medical and non medical evidence in his decision.

I had read these reviews before having my hearing so naturally I was nervous. The Honorable Judge Michelle Cavadi is not like what people portray her to be. She explained when I first went in that she will not look at me because she is looking at her paperwork and the computer that has all my pertinent information. She asked me questions about my condition. She allowed me to ask any questions at the end of my hearing. I did not think she was rude. She is very knowledgeable in the law. So, don't let bad reviews give you a wrong impression. If people don't get the results they want, they tend to give people bad reviews.

10/19/2016 7:57:02 AM

I went before Judge Clint Dorman at the end of September 2016. Before he proceeded, he told me to just relax and get comfortable. That right away, set my mind at ease. He allowed my attorney to ask me questions regarding my disabilities. Afterwards, he asked me a few questions and then asked the VRS Representative a few questions. The entire process took only 28 minutes. He then told me he would make his decision by tomorrow. In my opinion Judge Dorman was very professional, very compassionate, and very thorough. If you are truly disabled, this is the judge you want!

Judge: Robin R Palenske
9/4/2016 2:19:17 PM

Judge Palenske has been the recipient of some incredibly false and ridiculous critiques on this board. Firstly, her award rate is in line with the national average, which would itself indicate that she is applying the law faithfully and fairly. As a highly successful SSDI attorney, I have appeared before her many times. She rightly expects lawyers to fully and thoroughly present their cases. She listens more than she talks, and many of her colleagues on the Bench could learn from the thoughtful way in which she conducts her hearings. She is always respectful and courteous to each and every claimant, and always arrives at well reasoned legal conclusions regardless of whether the outcome is an award or a denial. If you have a good lawyer who follows Judge Palenske's specific pre-hearing instructions, and takes the time to carefully develop your testimony in court, this judge will award your case, provided that the medical evidence supports the severity of your allegations. By all standards of judicial fairness, temperament, and preparation, Judge Palenske is a model ALJ.

Judge: Michelle D Cavadi
8/4/2016 2:02:40 PM

She is a nightmare! She only focuses on one thing not your entire case. She is very rude. She is very arrogant, she acts as though she does not even want to be there. She does not have any expertise on the conditions I have and refuses to let you explain them to her.

A very unfair decision is one that is based on the lowest percentage of facts that count. A judge must consider all facts to be important. Its obvious in our case she was focused on one fact. Along with her lopsided view of our case, her absolute uncaring attitude showed through again, after a appeal was one, ms cavadi showed up with her intent to never be wrong and kept her lopsided, unfair, ratio of denials, right where she wants them.

Judge: Frederick McGrath
3/15/2016 7:02:39 AM

ALJ McGrath went above and beyond recently, and by his efforts, allowed my client her hearing when there had been a serious miscommunication regarding my client's file (it had been sent to another hearing office by mistake, and the hearing cancelled - all without notice to myself or my client). Another ALJ might have shrugged their shoulders and said nothing could be done, so sorry; ALJ McGrath instead tracked the file down, had it sent back to North, and worked the hearing into his already scheduled docket. While we are still awaiting results, we are grateful to have been able to conduct the hearing as we had planned, especially since my client traveled from TN to Athens for the hearing. Thank you Judge McGrath!

I went before Judge Paul T Williams on November 5th 2014. Judge Williams made me feel comfortable and at ease right from the beginning. Judge Williams was very understanding and compassionate. Judge Williams seemed genuinely concerned about my situation and asked me questions about all aspects of my life...not just my case and he listened intently to all my responses. I walked away feeling very good about my hearing. Long story short...I received my letter on July 2 2015 and my decision was FULLY FAVORABLE !! Thanks Judge Williams for helping to restore my life back to as normal as it can be considering my disabilities.

One of the worst judges in this office. Doesn't use vocational experts. Forgets to swear in witnesses. Sits on denials for months at a time. Will find the dumbest reasons to hold the record open in cases. For people that have waited years to have their cases heard, be prepared to wait even longer to hear back from her. Poor doesn't properly describe the job that she does. Taxpayers definitely deserve more.

As an attorney, I practice before several Social Security hearings offices and numerous judges throughout the Southeast. My experience with Judge McGrath has been consistently positive, and I have found him to be fair-minded and efficient in his handling of cases where I have appeared before him. While he takes a streamlined, no-nonsense approach to hearings, he appears to do this out of a sense of duty to move his cases efficiently and to minimize delay in resolving claims where claimants have already been required to wait months (or even years) without income leading up to finally getting their day in court.

WHAT DO I DO ..I was found disabled back in dec last year. ssi is with holding my monthly check from me that i use to live on. they made a mistake on what to pay my attorney and are now withhoding my ssi because Judge John E. Case re-opened my case after finding i was disabled and added more back-pay. I am about to be evicted because I havent been able to pay my rent on disablity alone which is only $375. my rent is $600 a month and my only source of income is social security. shouldnt that amount that my attorney was owed come from my back pay and not my monthly check im suposed to live on. i called both local and main social security offCie and they tell me there is nothing they can do to help me. Judge if you read this please I beg you to respond to me. I asked my attorney for help and they tell me my case is done and theres nothing they can do either. PLEASE HELP ME. my first claim was DENIED by this alj, even though he stated in his decision that i did in fact have two severe impairments.. of course the AC kept his ruling intact and my atty filed in federal court. well here it is 6 1/2 yrs from initial filing and 3 yrs after it was denied at appeals council and taken to fdc, my claim was remanded due to ERROR by the alj for NOT giving my treating doctors RFC any weight and going by what the ssa med examiner (which i never saw to begin with)said at some point before my initial denial (which only took a few months to get) hearing was NOT that quick, and also we waited for at least 15-20 minutes before hearing started as the VE was LATE. mind you judge started without the VE, and he finally arrived about 10 minutes before my hearing was over..he heard me answer the last 2 question is all. yet the judge took his opinion that there were thousands of jobs in the national economy within our region that i could do?? i am like the rest of you, i believe he has his mind made up before you go in the door...well, he messed up on this one and now i get a new hearing and hopefully with another judge

Our office has had numerous hearings with Judge McGrath. He has a reputation for scheduling several hearings at the same time and taking them on a first come/first served basis; will start early if you get there early; does NOT like submission of medical records on the day of the hearing. Generally does not ask for opening; lets rep do most of questioning and just cuts in when he has a question. I think he often has a good idea of how he feels about a case and uses the hearing to see if it changes his mind. His award rate is not out of line, so he's not denying everything that comes through the room. (Claimants need to understand it isn't the number of pages of records you have, but how well the opinions are supported by clinical evidence, diagnositic testing and your own credibility).

I have heard complaints about this ALJ being intoxicated in the past; my understanding is that this situation is under control now. I've had a number of hearings with her in the past couple of years and she always seemed fine and well prepared. She doesn't usually ask for opening or closing statements. She will cover most of the important stuff in a general way and then let rep follow up on specifics. She will award a solid case. She does often run late in starting hearings.

Judge: Frederick McGrath

Yes he has mind made up before the hearing. He schedules way too many hearings on one given day and they are conducted to quick. Rarely uses a VE. The Jacksonville ODAR is filled with fairly negative ALJs.

Judge: Frederick McGrath
3/7/2013 7:45:47 PM

Judge Frederick McGrath claimed he could not read the RFC filled out by my doctor because "the doctor's handwriting was not completely legible and his signature was indistinguishable." There were approximately 30 cases he ruled on before he saw me the day of my hearing and it seemed like he had already made up his mind on each case before the people even entered the courtroom. He wrote about my mental health in his official ruling even though my claim was entirely a physical case with all of my mental health issues (depression because I am unable to work) being a direct result of my physical disability.

Judge: Frederick McGrath
3/7/2013 6:57:22 PM

I was denied even though I have more than 4,000 pages of medical records, dozens of doctors supporting my claim and submitting written statements, and the court-appointed vocational expert testified that there was not a job I was suitable to do. Mcgrath ruled against this suggestion and said I could do a job that did not require standing, sitting, working with my hands, concentration, memory, interaction with people, and would allow me to lie down for extended periods of time each hour. I also require a caretaker (who is writing this message as I am unable to do so) on a fulltime basis to feed, cloth, bathe, drive, make appointments and manage my dr. schedule, clean, cook, and take care of basically all of my needs/activities of daily living. He made the decision in less than 5 minutes and asked me less than 10 quick questions. His decision was overturned on appeal and has been sent back to be heard in court for a second time. I first applied for disability in 1999 and have spent the last 6 years appealing his ruling. I am going back to court in the next 6 months or so and will let you know who I get and the judgement.

I would like to thank Judge Brock for finally approving disabitity for a very Good friend of mine that almost lost his foot due to waiting for 3 years for disability we appreciate you thanks!

Judge: Robin R Palenske
2/12/2013 11:45:21 AM

Judge Palenske is horrendously unfair. She shot us down on a very solid case, but didn't just deny it. She sat on it for over six months before issuing the denial. Absolutely unacceptable.

He is very nice, understanding and caring. I have never met anyone like him!!

Greensboro Rep
Judge: Dana Rosen

She is an unfair ALJ, who is close-minded, does not listen to pertinent testimony and constantly restricts questioning. Personality-wise, she is incredibly rude, interrupts and is argumentative, even catty over things, such as semantics during questioning, and anything petty. She loves to show whose in control. I respect her position but not people who act like this. She even tried to say my client needed to lose weight! My client was barely 10 or 15 lbs overweight--- and behind the bench, she looks at least 50 lbs overweight. with that fat rosy face of hers She's one of those people who use their power to be mean because they are powerless and feel worthless in their personal life.

Judge: Emanuel C Edwards

Judge Edwards was a very straight forward and fair judge . That treated me like a human instead of a number, seemed as he cared about my problems . I thank god for having him as my hearing judge.

absolute nightmare - she is a twit from twittersville - she is snooty, will not look at you with a serene caring look, acts like she owns the world and most definitely is the type, I think, that would undermine anything - she may know her law and what it takes to be a judge, but she is not a people person. Lost my case and hope to God Almighty I don't get her again after filing my appeal - not impressed - she need to go back where she came from -

Judge: Paul T Williams

Judge Williams was so nice, and really put me at ease during my hearing! I learned just 2 weeks after my hearing that I was approved. Thank you so much Mr. Williams!

very few questions.Let the lawyer who knew very little about me ask the questions. not very happy.

Judge: Robin R Palenske

Her conservative personality should have nothing to do with how she decides claims. She is to appy the rule of law and to take a fresh look at each individual claim.

Judge: Robin R Palenske

Space Cadet. Which Judge Palenske will show on a given day? On bad days, she has sworn in witnesses more than once. Asks very few questions in general. While I tend to share her conservative philosophy, she is not an easy judge.

Judge: Frederick McGrath
9/7/2012 10:25:39 AM

What a hoot! Seems to have his mind made up by the time we sit down. Holds 6 minute hearings. Gives great weight to RFCs. Somewhat of a "Nero" approach, either thumbs up or thumbs down, without excessive narrative. Does not like substance use or middle aged women with mental health issues.

Judge: John E Case
8/23/2012 1:49:55 PM

A judge could not make a claimant feel more at ease. He is very good judge.

Judge: Robin R Palenske
7/10/2012 6:01:00 PM

If you don't have representation, you don't stand a chance with Judge Palenske. She and the sytem work against those of us who cannot afford an attorney due to the length of time waiting to be heard. Beware!

Judge: Robin R Palenske
6/28/2012 5:28:12 PM

Obviously trying to be "THE" tough ALJ. "Trying" for sure.

I gave a one I did not think a 0 would be counted. He disregarded all of 3 my doctors evidence and went by the 3rd party doctor's report and it was full of lies. My lawyer informed me of the last 9 cases he has had in front of this judge 8 have received a unfavorable decisions. My lawyer dose not take cases he doesn't think are strong cases. If they don't win they don't get payed.

Judge: Nancy L Brock

I requested that the Appeals Council reopen a case where an unrepresented client went before her. They agreed!! The Judge said that the client was a secretary and performed someother job that she never did. Also, the client was 3 months away from turning 55, and she would have grided out with the light RFC that the Judge gave her. However, the Judge in her discreation found her to be 54, and denied her case. Also, the Judge never considered several of the claimant's medically determinable impairments.

This Judge really doesn't need to be doing Hearings. I never had a Representative but the Representative that was with her before me laughed on the Hearing date about how the Judge had been drinking. I do not drink but I really don't know why our SSA allows a Judge under the infulence to listen to cases.. This Judge was literally falling on the desk, speach slurred and I was amazed this woman was going to make a decision on me that would affect the rest of my life. Of course I got denied but she had no clue what was going on that day and I get a denial because of her inability to even stay focused on my Hearing... Thanks Judge Brock (maybe I would have done better if I would have come intoxicated to the Hearing?)

Judge: Helen O Evans

Dear Judge Evans, I'am writing about you just in my case, you said your decision was unfavorable in my disability case. I think the decision, was very wrong. You told my lawyer Mr. Weeks that I had won, then I recieved this letter form Greensboro that does'nt make any sense at all.
