I just had my hearing in front of Judge Sloss and am waiting for a decision. Regardless of the outcome I would say judge Sloss was nice, quick and to the point. I have severe anxiety so I was nervous but he had a way of making you feel comfortable during the hearing!

Judge Sloss approved my SSD case in October 2019. He was very kind but to the point. I believe he read my entire case well. He questioned me regarding my illness with questions that he only would of known if he had read my case. He questioned the vocational expert also. I feel he was very professional and made me feel comfortable during that time.

I will not appear in front of this judge ever again. One of the rudest judges I've ever encountered in 28 years. Eye rolling, head tilting while looking at you like she cannot believe a word that is coming out of your mouth. Basically, like a mother looking at her 5 year old tell a story. Of course she shakes her head and acts like you've asked her for $20.00. At 29% approval rating, you won't want to appear before her either. She is bent on denying and not interested in the truth or helping people. Avoid at all cost. Zero stars as there is no rating lower. Easily Top 3 worst judges I've ever been in front of. No idea how she got to be a judge.

Judge Sloss denied my son his disability upon appeal. This letter was dated April 24,2019. My son had been on disability due to heart problems since 2011. In 2015 upon reassessment by SSA he was denied so he filed an appeal. The appeal got 'lost' for almost 2 years. In 2017 he received a letter from SSA wanting him to pay back all the money he had received since his denial in 2015. Upon calling SSA it was found out that the appeal that he applied for in 2015 was never filed. So on and on...let's put an end to the story. On March 25, 2019 my son passed away from his heart condition. Ironically in todays mail, the letter stating that he was denied his appeal arrived. So much for facts regarding disability. Sloss needs to retire. It stated in the denial letter, that because my son could lift 10 lbs he could work! I am livid with Sloss for his inability to insure that people that are really disabled get the benefits they are entitled to. My son was only 43 years old.

Judge Andrew Sloss. Should read or listen to transcript before making any discussions. Or taking other judges opinions. He doesn't take inconcideration the word disability. When someone is bypoler with depression, anixity, lupus and, fibromyalgia. The list goes on. 19 different medication. That's not a disable person? I know people are worse then me. But I am a disable person. Mr. Sloss, you're not likeable person. I also believe you discriminate. Like I said pay more attrition to the transcripts and write notes. You just might have better reviews.

Judge: Donna Lefebvre

Judge Lefebvre made me feel at ease, because honestly I was a nervous wreck. An incident in the waiting area prior to the hearing left me a little shaken and embarrassed and was part of one of my conditions, so when my lawyer asked about this problem I broke down in the hearing. I was also embarrassed that when I had to stand up to readjust during the questioning, my hip popped quite loudly but the judges demeanor did not show disdain. I have not received the outcome of my case yet. Either way it goes, I hold no feelings either way towards the judge as a person. She has a job to do like everyone else in the system. I am just grateful I finally got my chance to tell my story, and was well enough to stand(and sit) before her to do so.

He treated me and my 16yr old disabled son with kindness and made us feel at ease. He had patience and understanding that my son is autistic and has no filter and rocks A LOT. He listened and asked questions and wanted to get a true understanding of what we went through on a daily basis with my son.

He asks very pertinent questions and is always on point, he presents a very calm demeanor which quickly puts you at ease. Judge: Michael Schaefer

After an hour and 45 minute hearing I felt the judge was pushing to deny my disability! The judge appointed jobs person answered the judges questions and came to the conclusion I was unable to work! If unable to work how is a person suppose to survive??? The judge made a decision on the review of 2 doctor reports that never even seen me they had just read the (I say false) report of the one they sent me to!!! Which I seen again July 2016 and he said to me only good thing was my heart, whether or not he put that in my report or not, if not I don't feel it should be valid to use at my next hearing! I first applied Oct 2011 now here it is Jan 2017 still waiting on second hearing and on the verge of homeless!

Judge: Jim Beeby

I dont feel he is fair and he sure dont listen to what the person says in the court. He mainly goes on what the lady that looks up jobs says. He seemed real an compasionate, but in a real world he is not. If my mom could work she would not be fighting for her social security. She is not a druggie or drunkard,an im sorry for those who are . Although those are the ones who mainly get approved. He says my mom can work so he needs to find her a job. !! He is not a fair person.i hope the ones he approved are greatfull because i cannot believe how an why she got denied. Im glad im not him at night cause he needs forgiveness thats for sure. Especially after he does not listen. He sure acts like he does at first until you get the big white envelope in the mail. My mom is devastated. Now what can she do?? He gets no stars from me or my mom. This site marked one star by accident an it wont let me take it off. No stars at all.

Very friendly judge. He knew my case inside and out, ask many questions. Was very nice and considerate of the fact you may need to stand or move around to be comfortable. Really liked this judge and I felt comfortable in front of him.

Judge: Michael Schaefer
5/5/2016 1:49:51 PM

My experience is that Judge Schaefer was setting up the case for the claimant to fail. He was a former prosecutor and it felt like my client was gently being cross examined and led into negative statements which exaggerated what he could do, and which led to what I believe was an improper denial.

Judge: Joan A Lawrence
3/30/2016 3:46:23 PM

Honorable Judge Joan; I am a 59 year old Disable Veteran with severe neck and back issues; that affect my right arm and legs 24/7. These injures happened while I was serving my Country. The VA has rated me at 120% disable but only received 80% compensation. I have had to work hard all my life, since leaving the US Army in 1976. Now I am left no longer able to work a job due to my medical issues and age; no one will hire me, I have tried. I applied for my Social Security Disability and was denied by Judge Joan. Even though the Vocational Expert told her during my hearing; “that due to my medical condition there was no jobs for me.” Another American disabled Veteran forgotten by our system. Sincerely, and very disappointed.

He did my hearing by video here in Augusta, GA he was very professional and made me feel at ease, asked questions that I felt needed to be asked, and once done he said I was approved. I am disable veteran 100% P&T so all my paperwork was there for him to read, and this was shorter hearing than I thought it would take.

Judge: Jim Beeby
10/1/2015 2:58:01 PM

Judge appeared to base his opinion not on fact and medical records but some other reason. Applying for and not getting a job is not a reason to deny disability when the facts prove otherwise. Sounds like there is more to this picture than what meets the eye. Will be researched further but sounds like retribution for something else entirely. Even the voc-rehab expert stated that these were valid disabilities and due to liabilities, the applicant could never get hired.

I saw her on August 4 2015. I was so nervous. I was told before I saw her that I was to keep it brief and to the point. I don't understand when people go in front of a judge why they can't tell us right then and there. I was told I have a strong case but I have to wait 6 to 8 weeks for a decision. Judge Lawrence was very pleasant and seemed concerned. When I walked in she told me I could stand up if I needed to which I thought it was kind of her due to the pain I was in. I did once but again I was so nervous. When it was all over she told me she hoped that I got to feeling better. She seemed very thoughtful.

Judge Bowling was so kind and compassionate. He listened and never interrupted. I found him easy to talk to and I highly respect him. Whether or not I was approved for SSDI, it doesn't matter---bottom line---he is a great ALJ and I am so happy I had him for my hearing.

Had two hearings before Judge Beeby. He was courteous and considerate of the claimants, wanting to be sure they understood what was going on. He ran a logical hearing that allowed the claimants to fully tell their story. Whether he rules favorably or not, he conducted a fair hearing and, I believe, will render an honest decision. I would not mind appearing before him again.

Wtbs, my hearing with her was very brief, and to the point. I've never been in front of an ALJ before because I'm still waiting on my court date hearing . I applied for disability May 2012 & I have received letters stating that my case is sitting at the ALJ Office. My attorney told me that its still pending but I should be hearing something any time since its been over a year or 2. I had a hearing in April 2013 but I missed it. I don't know what to expect or do. I'm a little scared.

Judge: Donna Lefebvre

She goes through the motions of being professional but she has no respect for anyone trying to get disability. She has a hateful, angry look etched into her face and her dislike of disability claimants is obvious. In the legal community she's known as poison. She will attack you in her decision over things that she didn't even bring up in the hearing. She is spiteful and malicious and clearly has a private vendetta against disability claimants.

Judge Heaton heard my disability case on Mar.26 2014. Actually on my birthday. She made me feel comfortable in her court room. She told me before we started if I needed a break or to stand and move around, it would be fine. I did have to stand up for a little while after sitting 15-20 min. She seemed genuinely interested in hearing what I had to say. She listend very close to what I said and seemed to soak up the information at hand. My attorney (Kenneth Miller) ask most all the questions. Judge Heaton only had 2 or 3 questions for me. She actually stopped my attorney before we were finished. To make her decision then and there. She didrule in my favor, whitch im grateful for. Judge Heaton seems to really care and try to understand what problems you are having. Before I left she wished me well with my health problems. And also a Happy Birthday!! Another reason she seems to be a REAL person. She sure didn't have to do that!!

I also have not recieved my letter of decision in the mail yet. Judge Smith made me feel very at ease, the anxiety level went down the longer he spoke to me, I felt like I could trust him more than my own attorney at the time. Judge Smith is a real person, like one you would have sitting in front of your tv with you at home. Good luck, if you are reading this you are probably worried about your appearance date in front of him, it will be fine as long as you are legitimate and honest.

URGENT JUDGE AND NEEDS ATTENTION IN THE WORST WAY. WHAT DO I DO ..I was found disabled back in dec last year. ssi is with holding my monthly check from me that i use to live on. they made a mistake on what to pay my attorney and are now withhoding my ssi because Judge John E. Case re-opened my case after finding i was disabled and added more back-pay. I am about to be evicted because I havent been able to pay my rent on disablity alone which is only $375. my rent is $600 a month and my only source of income is social security. shouldnt that amount that my attorney was owed come from my back pay and not my monthly check im suposed to live on. i called both local and main social security offCie and they tell me there is nothing they can do to help me. Judge if you read this please I beg you to respond to me. I asked my attorney for help and they tell me my case is done and theres nothing they can do either. PLEASE HELP ME. You were a very nice Judge and made me feel comfortable but now i feel overwhelmed that no one wants to help me. Please help. this is real urgent. im sick over it.

Judge: Alfred M Smith

I have yet to receive my decision in the mail on my case, so this is an impartial review. Judge Smith seemed like a very professional, compassionate and caring person and even though I cried through most of my testimony and had to tell him about some of the more embarrassing truths about my disability, he made me feel at ease. He seemed like a good person. I would say say IF you find yourself in front of Judge Smoth, count yourself lucky :)

I really liked this judge, she really seemed to understand what I had gone through, seemed compassionate and professional! When I received my letter from her, not only was I in shock, but my attorney was as well! She went totally opposite of how we thought she would go, not only because of the evidence but also just the way she reacted to everything in court! I think I would've rather had a judge that would've been a total ***** and pretty much let me know how she felt in court than to have a total surprise like we did!

Watch how evidence is characterized in your case he does not seem to read file prior to hearing so you will need to educate about the case AT hearing. He is friendly but that is fatal to your case if you underestimate what he knows about the file. When going to VE in GRID cases watch as he does not have sedentary evaluated he will just address medium and light work even though there are NO transferrable skills.

He was very blunt and to the point but would also explain why! The Vocational expert and court recorder was also nice and professional! I admit to being real nervous when i first went in the room but Judge SPANGLER was pleasant talking and calm which made me feel the same way after the hearing started. So my experience with Judge TODD SPANGLER was a very good one! GOOD LUCK ! I HOPE YOU GET JUDGE SPANGLER ALSO !

I had my hearing about 2 weeks ago and she was nice and straight forward. If you get this judge she will treat you with dignity and with respect. Win or lose she was fair and made me feel comfortable and I really felt like she cared. A very nice lady indeed.

These statistics are flawed in the percentages presented. They all are flawed on this site. The only numbers that reflect the true behavior of an ALJ are his or her decisions on the merits. ALJ Grissom had 213 determination on the merits of the claims. (Subtract the dismissals.) 122/213 = 57% approval rate, 43% denial rate. He is about an average ALJ in his approval rates vis a vis the national average. Comment by an experienced advocate who has appeared in front of scores of ALJs in decades of client representation.

Judge Seigel started our hearing early...always a plus in my book! He gave odd hypos, I thought, but a lot of them, and they eventually got to where they needed to be. I will reserve judgement on how that goes until I see the decision. Very dry, pleasant presentation. Will put your client at ease well enough.
